Did you get yours? If not give them a call if you can/want to. I was hoping some people from here would be on my floor.MSPeast wrote:I'll be so frustrated if my letter isn't here today!

Also, does anyone know if they come with beds or just the frames? Does it have a mattress?

Does anyone know exactly what the renovations they are doing this summer entail? When I toured, it sounded it was mostly just structural stuff to deal with some pest problems, etc. I am just wondering if they are upgrading any of the appliances or furniture as well...did anyone ask directly about that?

Hey guys, long time lurker. I'm going to be living in Gewirz on the second floor this fall. Any floor-mates in sight?

That is what I thought about the mattress, but I saw they listed the frame dimensions yet they didn't mention a mattress. Great we are on the same floor. Hope we get along, maybe we'll be in the same section. We should get that in a few weeks. It would be pretty unorthodox to require students to go out and find long twin mattresses. They may as well be unfurnished if they were going to take that route.Unitas wrote:Did you get yours? I am looking for a PC right now that has a TV tuner and DVR system with a 20+ inch monitor to hook up in the room. I don't watch TV live usually.

Ha, I emailed mine and she friended me. No pictures, though, so I have no idea what she looks like. She seems nice.MSPeast wrote:8th Floor west side! Upper floor facing west; couldn't be happier.
Except my new roommate is difficult to find on Facebook... privacy controls + common names makes this difficult. He's probably thinking the same about me though!
Re: Renovations. I did ask, and they said they were doing the kitchens over. Not sure how true that is, though.
I'm buying tivo. I NEED it.

I'm just going to go with the computer route with a tuner. It gives you the benefits of a tivo plus online TV all wrapped into the computer and monitor setup at a slight price premium.Kim617 wrote:Ha, I emailed mine and she friended me. The only problem is that I don't plan on getting a computer larger than 14", but I do plan on getting a bigger tv, maybe 32". So tivo just makes sense, especially since the refurbished dual tuner is only 50 bucks, and 13 dollars a month for the service.Unitas wrote:I'm just going to go with the computer route with a tuner. Makes sense, I thought tivos cost a lot more than that. I am only going to have a computer with the monitor "probably 24 inches" that I will use as a computer and TV to save room. Then I'll have my laptop for notes in class. I am like you though - I need a DVR.Kim617 wrote:The only problem is that I don't plan on getting a computer larger than 14", but I do plan on getting a bigger tv, maybe 32". Re: GULC c/o 2013
I really enjoy this thread.
For those who have less college dorm/apt experience, I lived on my college campus for the past four years for undergrad. The place where I lived the past three years was similar to Gewirz in that it was apartment-style. Hurray for kitchens! My freshman dorm, it was allllll about the microwave. Yay, Easy Mac.
I had the DVR problem and our housing cable was formatted to accept the DVR box until this year, so I ended up getting a DVR DVD player. You hit record, and the player burns the show onto the dvd. I mainly only used it for the big shows I wanted to watch (LOST, Glee, The Good Wife, SVU) since it does burn the DVD instead of simply using memory space that youc an delete.

So after putting the financial aid stuff off for weeks while I finished work, I just did all my loans. It took 20 minutes. I don't know why I was freaking out so much. Load off!
While all your dorm denizens are thinking TV or not TV, I am thinking; new couch or no new couch?
I see all the Taylor Swift and Jay-Z love in here. Now, let me ask this - anyone else a fan of alternative bluegrass?

Re: GULC c/o 2013
So tonight I was in anal nutcase mode, and literally I just got rid of 15 pairs of shoes and two garbage bags worth of clothes. Whoever gets clothing from my church is getting a lot of awesome stuff. My closet is STILL stuffed. WTF? I got rid of like 9 pairs of heels, but it was a long time coming. The rest were like flats I don't wear anymore, and a couple of pairs of boots. I might have regrets tomorrow, but if I don't wear it, then it's OUT. This is so scary. Am I the only one that HATES getting rid of shoes? And seriously, I have bags from like 7 years ago that I STILL won't get rid of. Dooney & Burke and Coach, I'm looking at you. Getting rid of all this stuff makes me want to go shopping.
Ha, sorry. I needed to vent or else I'll put it all back in my closet.
And no volsi, don't like alternative bluegrass. I don't even know what it is. I feel like we can learn so much from each other.

Re: GULC c/o 2013
I did that last year (the getting rid of clothes) and it feels strange for a few days. Then it feels wonderful! I'd been holding on to some shoes from high school, which was the late 90s. You can just imagine the kind of platformed chunky crap I had to get rid of. And after that, I still have too many pairs of shoes.Kim617 wrote:So tonight I was in anal nutcase mode, and literally I just got rid of 15 pairs of shoes and two garbage bags worth of clothes. I'd be glad to do a complete cultural exchange. You'll cook italian, I'll cook russian, and we'll alternate between hip-hop and the sweet sounds of Appalachia. In all seriousness, I have the strangest musical tastes of anyone I know.
