I'd rather be more subtle about it and just troll any thread with Duke or Virginia in the title with this information.

I'm a summer starter (section 1). And I do know who you are (though I think I'll fail miserably at pronouncing your last name correctly)! Mwhahahaha...

I'd love to but I think they'd (correctly) call sour grapes on me since I got YP'd this cycle.

Where do we send our transcripts to? Is it the overall Duke Registrar's Office, or is there a specific office in the law school?

Do we have to send final transcripts through LSAC? Or do they just want a final transcript to their office to make sure we graduated?

"Official Transcripts must be submitted to our office directly from the institution." I interpreted "our" to mean "Duke Law School." I used the standard law school address on "Science Drive and Tower View Road."

"Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work must be on file prior to your arrival at Duke in order to meet the requirements of the American Bar Association. Transcripts submitted to LSAC are not sufficient for this purpose. Your undergraduate transcript must indicate that you earned a bachelor's degree."

Sweet, thanks. I guess I'll just send them a copy soon. Our commencement was today.

I sent my transcript to the PO Box Address listed on all the law school's correspondence and just addressed it "Law School Admissions Office." Sent it about two and a half weeks ago and called them a couple of days ago to confirm receipt of it. FYI, the LSAC stuff isn't sufficient, you have to get your school's registrar to send a sealed, official copy directly to the law school.

They claim to mail it out within 5 days of your order, but the charge has yet to even show up under 'Bursar Info' on my ACES.

One more thing to add to yall's lists: shop around for a renter's insurance quote. I was just going to go with my complex's referenced insurance company (Assurant) and pay $113 for just limited liability, but a quick call to Geico landed me liability plus $20k property insurance for $66 a year.

A 15 minute call saved me 41% on my renter's insurance.

I had a 13-inch and then went with the 15. I really like the bigger screen. Next year, however, I'm going to be doing a fair amount of traveling (prolly fly home for 3 weekends/semester if I can and a 15-inch laptop is really annoying for in-flight use), and it may spend a lot more time hooked up to a TV/external monitor. I also used to reboot into windows and play games, which I have totally stopped doing ever since I got a PS3. So now I also don't need the extra GPU. Dunno, I guess what I do will depend on part on how much I can get for it, but I'm leaning towards sticking with it.

Wow that is an absolute no-brainer.

I've been looking at apartment complexes. I think I'm going to go with either West Village or Station Nine, in large part because I would like to bike to school every day. I have to pull the trigger sometime before Friday. I'm also still trying to decide if moving my furniture (probably worth around $2k altogether) is worth it.

Came across this earlier thread posted by the Class of 2012; I thought it was worth repeating....

Best Professors:

Richman: (Contracts) was by far my favorite. He's heavy socratic, and he pushes you, but he teaches with passion and you can really tell he's a genius.

Coleman: (Torts) is very particular, and is usually looking for specific answers. If you like that, then you'd like her. Sometimes, however, she can be harsh with her Socratic method.

Metzloff: (CivPro) is a really nice guy. He'll talk your ear off and he always has a story. He's very forgiving with his socratic approach.

Beale: (CrimLaw) has a LOT of energy. She's also really nice, and you can tell she cares about her students and wants them to learn. Rarely is she socratic (except for early in the semester).

Powell: (ConLaw) is incredibly smart. He has an uncanny ability to understand what a student is trying to say. This is tremendously helpful when you've been called on. At the same time, because he's so smart, he expects a lot from his students, and from a socratic standpoint, the class can be challenging. That said, he's also incredibly nice and willing to help during office hours.

Tigar: (CivPro) - absolutely amazing. He had a long and interesting career in private practice (I would guess he's going on 70 now). I remember being completely riveted by his stories about defending Terry Nichols (Interesting when the best outcome you can hope for is life in prison...). I imagine he'd make civ pro quite interesting with all his stories from real practice. Plus, I've heard great things about his trial practice course.

Young: (ConLaw) - I didn't have Ernie Young for con law, but everyone who did seemed to love it. He seems to have quite a following, and a lot of students try to get into his upper level courses.

Wiener: (Property) - I met Professor Wiener because he hosted a poker night with Professor Richman, which a group of us successfully bid on at the public interest auction. (I think it was the single largest grossing item, because the combination of playing poker and these two professors generated a ton of interest). He seemed like a really fun guy, very easy going. I didn't have his property class, but those who had him really seemed to enjoy the class. The section we had contracts with had property with Wiener earlier in the day, and they often came in with antecdotes and funny stories from property.

I think I'm going to get a 13-inch MacBook. I had a Dell laptop in college that actually ran quite well with XP Pro on it, but the screen died about 6 months ago. I've looked at the Pros but there don't seem to be many extra benefits for a 13-inch Pro over the standard MacBook configuration.

Unless you want the aluminum body, it's probably the right decision. You can get a refurb for like $750 at the Apple store.

Aluminum body is nice, but the glass screen is fragile. Guess I might be the only one with a big ole clunky 15'' macbook pro lol.

Nice find on those professors paralegal. Grr, I want to get my fall schedule already.

Does anyone know if parking usually sells out or if we can get it a little later? They gave us a decent amount of time to acquire the pass, and I'm still debating if I need one since I'll be ~1 mile from west campus.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
