My first packet was lost in the mail. When I asked them to resend it, it arrived about four days later on the west coast. It did include the scholarship info. Congrats on the acceptance!

I have all but decided on MN. After the ASW, we will make the final decision.

In with scholly. Sadly will not be able to make either ASW due to ridiculous airfare and insane work schedule. Nonetheless, I am very excited about UMN. Seems to have one of the better foundations for criminal law out there, law school has a hockey team, great city, good clinics. All in all very pleased. I am not ready to commit before more decisions come back, but I would be very happy here.

GrandMarc offers the only furnished ones I know of in Seven Corners, but they're pretty darn expensive and apparently swarming with undergrads.

Yeah, I was slightly ticked off about that. But then again, I hope you went to Minnesota in March (since TORT was great, and it was quite a busy weekend with 120+ potential students), then plan on going to Illinois for April.

If there was a disappointment at ASW, besides the mediocre food, it was the housing tour. The guide was humorous, but the substance was more on trivia and local attractions rather than possible housing and leads. At least I know a few current 1Ls at U Minn and IIRC, after asking the tour guide about getting directories/listings he said that the information desk can help.

I picked up a Rent411 magazine while in town and this was the only uptown, dog friendly listing: Tree Tops at Calhoun, 3535 Bryant Avenue South. Studios from $650 and 1BRs from $725. 612-217-9057.

I used to live a block north of that. Decent neighborhood. A bit quieter than Uptown but still close to the lakes and bars and such.

IF, and it is totally a huge IF, I get in to MN off the WL I would most definitely entertain the idea of a place in South Minneapolis w/ other law students. If I get in and need roomies i'll give a shout-out here. Otherwise, if anyone has questions about neighborhoods or anything shoot me a PM.

I've just submitted my deposit at the studios at seven corners. The mgmt there is very nice and they will allow a refund of your deposit if you eventually agree to terminate your reservation (given that they will find someone to replace you, which they probably will with their long wait list). The studios are very efficient -- comes with walk in closet, bathroom, kitchen and the waiting room/bedroom rolled in one area. And for 700 a month, it is probably the cheapest option nearby the law school for those of us who are no longer used to having roommates. The facility is very quiet. I was told that mostly law students are there, so there are no noise issues. They also have a swimming pool, small workout room and an internet station in the lobby.

If anyone wants to be more suburban for whatever reason (i.e. maybe you have kids, or just like the extra space), and don't want the hassle of driving everyday, this site has a list of the several bus routes that go through the U (although you'll want to verify whether each one serves the West Bank - I don't know off the top of my head), and the U will give out a UPass, which is either a free or deeply discounted (again, I didn't go to the U for undergrad so I don't know) smart card for the transit system. http://www.metrotransit.org/popularDest ... routes.asp Lots of these are express routes that skip downtown and serve the U directly, while others are typical downtown commuter buses with extensions to the U.

On the other hand, if you want to have frequent, all-hours public transit to the U (as in you truly hate driving), then you'll want to live in either Downtown Minneapolis, Downtown St. Paul, or within a half-mile of University Avenue between the two downtowns, as there is a bus (#16) that is both a "high-frequency" route and an "owl" route. During rush hours, there is also a #50 limited stop bus on University that supplants the #16.

Yeah, I'm kind of a dork about this sort of thing.

Thanks for the link. What do you think of the Uptown area? I heard a lot of law students prefer it.

The U offers a student pass for about $85 a semester. That's what I'm planning to use because I love driving, but despise driving in the snow/ice.

Still on a few waitlists because hey, nothing to lose, why not? But at this point it would take an entirely unexpected offer you can't refuse kind of waitlist admission elsewhere to make me change my mind.

So, in all likelihood, looking forward to seeing others on this thread in Minneapolis in the fall!
