Shooter's sounds good for us younger people then. I'm gonna need to find a new signature bar. Mechanical bull? Awesome.

Thanks! It will probably come tomorrow though. Texas is kind of far away.

Can't complain about that! Anyone here getting any need based aid? Do these scholarship ammounts include any need money?

Someone (not me) should call and see if these scholarships include need based money.

Edit: It definitely includes need aid because when I asked about how to appeal, she asked if my financial situation had changed.

I will barter based off of other offers, I am pretty much as poor as you get ( I think I could probably get welfare if i tried lol) so I'm not really worried about the need part I'm sure I got as much of that as possible. It is really a question of how much they are willing to give you and if you ask for it.

Wait, so you think your aid ammount includes need? Can you PM me your stats?

Hrm, that sucks. I wonder if you get the same ammount regardless of if you pick merit or need/merit.

Doesn't seem there is any specific need based grants like other schools do. I have to call about that. However, I think the $60k offer is more than enough to put me into Duke C/O 2013 :D :D :D

EDIT: I broke down and called and they do not offer any additional need-based aid besides what was included in your offer. I guess theres still the possibility of Pell grants from your FAFSA though, right?

So I was looking at the NALP directory at different firms and such, and have anybody noticed what a relatively low salary Florida firms pay? Theres only 1 firm that pays a $160k salary. I guess this is because of a lack of biglaw in Florida, but it still seems weird to me. Just asking because I know at least one of yall are shooting for Fl. This isn't unique to Duke either.

The market rate seems to be 100-130k in Florida. It is a secondary market, likely because there isn't much industry here. The QOL makes up for it IMO. If I'm going to have one day off of work a week, I better be spending it at the beach.

Also, note the lack of state income tax. I know Texas doesn't have one either, but compared to NY/CA, it makes a difference.

Thats true QOL is nice there. I just have never understood why wages are lower across the board in Florida (except maybe real-estate agent lol). That said, I'll take the $160k job in Miami, please! :D

Psh that might be THE BEST firm job in Florida, so I doubt any Gators are there :P (maybe a Longhorn or two though).

Just be careful about Miami. Make sure you are fluent in Spanish and can handle the crazy drivers blasting reggaeton.

I just visited Miami for the first time in December. It was a nice place, for the first few hours lol. Not sure if I would live there, though. The driving was funny though, and EVERYONE constantly honks their horns for no real reason. I don't think I would take the hit in pay to live in Florida though, so you can have all the jobs there you want :D . I'll stick with my chances in Houston since it seems to be the least popular place in Texas.
