no focuses. as far as i know, such a thing does not exist in law school.Kevin3960 wrote:Can you explain the Villanova's focus areas of study? Do you declare a focus like one declares a college major? Thanks

Re: Villanova 2013
Mikey, now that you're a second semester 1L... how are your peers and yourself doing with the job search. During your tour, you said you had secured employment for the summer (research, IIRC). Have your classmates had similar successes, if you know? Has anyone locked in a law firm for the summer, or do you have a gauge for the demand in the general area for Villanova 1L's for the summer (paid/nonpaid, doesn't matter)? It may be a bit early in the game for this question, but I'm curious to see how Philadelphia is faring in the recession.
I know there are a lot of job postings, are people striking out with them, or are they doing pretty well?
Also, is gym access included in the tuition?

Re: Villanova 2013
Everyone with decent grades has had success in obtaining summer employment. The vast majority are going to be unpaid, because 1Ls aren't exactly ready for employment to the extent of getting paid. Most paid jobs will probably be academic, i.e., I am doing research for a professor through a fellowship. The bottom line is work hard, study, and get good grades! If you get good grades, you will not have a difficult time securing summer employment.beach_terror wrote:Mikey, now that you're a second semester 1L... how are your peers and yourself doing with the job search. Yes, some people with good grades couldn't find jobs, but its usually their own fault. Some people have a sense of entitlement, or think they're such hot shit that anyone will hire them, and thus only apply to a handful of jobs. This is a HUGE mistake. Keep in mind, your up against people from other schools too.
But generally people are doing well finding employment.
Think about it rationally: 1Ls want summer jobs and are willing to work for free. Who wouldn't want free labor?

Are there actual HOUSES (within a few minutes of campus) that rent out to law students or just condos/apartments? I lived in a house with a yard last year of undergrad with 4 other people and would enjoy the same type of living in law school.

Well, the houses in this area are generally some of the more expensive houses in the entire Philly area. Are there some that are rented out? I guess. But this isn't really a typical college town where there are a ton of houses that get rented out to students year-after-year.bucknell09 wrote:Are there actual HOUSES (within a few minutes of campus) that rent out to law students or just condos/apartments? The town of Villanova actually has a lot of housing restrictions against college houses like you described. They vehemently don't want the area to become a typical "college town".superflush wrote:Well, the houses in this area are generally some of the more expensive houses in the entire Philly area. Well, there is no "town of Villanova" but the restrictions may be there nonetheless.beach_terror wrote:The town of Villanova actually has a lot of housing restrictions against college houses like you described. They vehemently don't want the area to become a typical "college town".

Anyone decide on housing yet?
(as to the what Villanova actually is, yeah I was incorrect. Never really bothered to look it up, sorry for any misinformation.)

Congrats. At the ASD today the student panel mentioned that a lot of 1Ls live in Radnor House and Ratcliff House. I am probably going to consider one of those for my first year, then hopefully rent a house my 2L after I meet some people I like.

Yeah, ASD was really well done, Ratcliff house looks nice. How do we get on/ get a copy of that housing sheet with other people looking for roommates?

I may be in the search for roommates, if anyone knows how to get a copy of that sheet Onion mentioned, I'd be interested to look as well. I was unfortunately unable to go to the ASD (was at Syracuse's), so hopefully I didn't miss out on too much. Anything unusual strike anyone during the ASD?
Also, is anyone considering 3 roommates to start out with to save as much cash as possible? I figure that as long as I have my own room I'll be fine (I'll be at the school doing most of my work anyway).

Someone should start a student-run Facebook group, the class last year did it and it seemed like it helped keep everyone in touch about social happenings at Villanova that were not sponsored by the school. I will help run it if someone sets it up, PM me if you want to talk about it.

E-mail admissions@law.villanova.edu to request to be added to the roommate list. I only did so today, but apparently they e-mail you back with a copy of it.
