2) I recently bought some random Texas land to gain residency for my 2L and 3L years. However, I just received confirmation that the domicile law is going to change in October. Now, one will be required to live in the purchased property for a year. I briefly talked to a residency counselor, but he's not entirely sure how the law will affect those who have already purchased land. Does anyone have any info on this?

Everyone in 1-A is in Bradford. The small group (i.e. 1-A) mentors are 2Ls and 3Ls. The society, however, has a faculty advisor.

This land/residency rule change does not sound good. That they are trying to up and change it right at the last minute before the semester begins is in poor taste imo - as if the residency issue would not have some part to play in school selection. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.


Btw, am I the only one surprised by how cheap most of these books actually are if you can find them used? I think I have all of my known required books on order and for less than $500! I was originally expecting to pay upwards of $1500 or so. Am I missing something?

Hopefully those of us who bought land before the law changed -- if it even has changed already, I haven't checked -- will be OK. (At least that's what I tell my dwindling bank account... )

law school office told me I could do it when I was here in June, so I imagine we can do it now. I wanted to beat the undergrad rush, but still haven't made it over there. It's at the FAC building which is not just super close to the law building.

I went in and got my student ID on Wednesday. I just walked right up, no line at all. But the FAC was definitely more busy than it has been the other times that I was in there this summer. If you can, it would probably be a good idea to head over there some time soon.

So I got some weird piece of mail today from Campus and Central properties which says:

"The laws have changed for residency ...You may no longer buy investment real estate and qualify for residency."

But, it's still an advertisement claiming we can get in-state tuition. I hope my little plot of land still counts!

Wow! Everyone is so excited about getting schedules. I am, too! I have two questions if you guys don't mind taking a stab.

1) I see my class list but not the times and days. Where are you guys seeing this info?

Saw that no one has answered this one. In case you are still wondering:

1) Go to your Freshlaw status page.

2) click on the course number next to a listed course to get the times/locations of classes.

Now for my own question: does anyone know for sure what the rules are with regards to out-of-state drivers licenses and out-of-state registered vehicles? Everything I have seen says that out-of-state students are exempted from the requirement to change over their driver license and registration upon moving to TX. Is the same true regarding the requirement of having an up to date exhaust inspection if one is residing in Travis county?

On a positive note, he did mention that since numerous students have opted to establish residency via this route, they expect those of us who purchased our land pre-Oct to be grandfathered in. Hopefully the thought of hundreds of angry students storming the legislature for a "refund" will sway them to accept us as residents already! (gosh, texas must REALLY not want us here).

Is anybody by chance looking for a place to live still? I recently got off a waitlist at a school and am debating on whether to go to that school or not. I have already signed a lease for a 1 BR condo about a ten minute walk from the law school. PM me if interested.

Where did you just get into? Tough choice. I'm still wait listed at several top ranked programs, but I have decided UT is the best place for me. I haven't withdrawn from the others simply because after all these months of being on "Resere" I deserve a final answer!

I'm in the same situation. Waiting, I mean. But if I get in, I'm pretty sure I'll go. I've already signed a lease in Austin and it'll be expensive to break it. But couldn't pass up the opportunity.

Though, of course, it's very unlikely that I'll get in off the waitlist.

Did you already get the information about your donor? I still haven't received anything. According to the FA office, we also have to send a copy to the financial aid office.

As for your other question, I bought my textbooks on half.com, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble. For one of my books, I had to order from the publisher, where I also found a cheap supplement. I spent around $700 for all my books.

Yeah, I already received a letter telling me where to send it, but it was vague on if I send a copy to the financial aid office as well.
