I'm not sure exactly, but I read somewhere that tonight's projected snowfall may push us over the old record of 58 inches (I think) in an entire winter.jawsthegreat wrote:How much snow has Charlottesville had this winter?

Re: UVA Class of 2013
I remember being all excited when it actually snowed around Christmas time last year here in Texas. Then I went outside, felt how cold it was, and stopped appreciating it so much. I can deal with the heat better...well, I wouldn't say that. Anyway, I'm not looking forward to the three to five minute walk in the snow to class if the best case scenario occurs in regards to housing.

Yeah, I'm from Texas and have the same opinion of snow. I have stocked up on food in anticipation of not leaving the apartment until at least Tuesday.billyez wrote:I remember being all excited when it actually snowed around Christmas time last year here in Texas. The snow day in December was funny. Nearly half the offices in the city let their employees out early so they didn't get caught in bad conditions driving home and the snow was barely sticking to the ground.vanwinkle wrote:Yeah, I'm from Texas and have the same opinion of snow. Re: UVA Class of 2013
This may sound ridiculous, but I am hoping that there is lots of snow next year!! My husband and I were in Charlottesville last weekend checking it out and we had so much fun playing in the snow and laughing at our silly rental car that liked to slide around. We were like little kids, especially hubby. He grew up in south Texas and reverts to childhood when snow appears.vanwinkle wrote:I'll be here too. I went to the grocery store to stock up and make sure I'd have food for the weekend since I'll be snowed in the whole time... and almost didn't make it out alive. It was chaos and panic in there like I've never seen before.YCrevolution wrote:It looks like I'll be here when Charlottesville's all-time (since 1881) snow in single season record gets shattered on Saturday. The current record is 54.7 inches from '95-'96. We only need 18.3 inches sometime during the remainder of this season to reach the record. We're supposed to get 28 inches this weekend (starting Friday morning).
Dear C/O 2013, please don't let all this discourage you, it's a once-per-century event and thus we're taking the bullet so you don't have to.

Snow is alright in places that are built to handle it but I went to school in D.C. and I'm not sure I have ever seen a plow between Baltimore and Atlanta. The District literally flatlines for anything more than 3". It sounds like this weather is making life in Charlottesville at least a headache if not a full blown Charlie Foxtrot.pilotgal wrote:This may sound ridiculous, but I am hoping that there is lots of snow next year!! Still, I'm ok with a little white stuff as long as no one slides into my Mazdarati.

You guys are weak - we've had almost twenty-five feet of snow here so far and it's still snowing.

That doesn't exactly explain where in the world you get 25 feet of snow in a year.SweetnessUVA wrote:Antarctica's a desert, it gets 2"/yr in some places.vanwinkle wrote:SweetnessUVA wrote:You guys are weak - we've had almost twenty-five feet of snow here so far and it's still snowing.![]()

I'll give you a hint - two years ago, it snowed 605" (over fifty feet) during the season.vanwinkle wrote:That doesn't exactly explain where in the world you get 25 feet of snow in a year.SweetnessUVA wrote:Antarctica's a desert, it gets 2"/yr in some places.vanwinkle wrote:SweetnessUVA wrote:You guys are weak - we've had almost twenty-five feet of snow here so far and it's still snowing.![]()

And it's worth mentioning that this was only official calculations until closing day. Including April, which snowed almost every day, the tally ended up well over 700".

I tried to call a realty company earlier today for an apartment and nobody picked up. I'm assuming they're all trapped at home with their doors blocked by snow.

ay. Charlottesville was noted as being especially hard hit on NPR today.

To give you an idea of how bad it is, I went out today and passed a stop sign that was so buried in snow you could only see the top half of the sign part.billyez wrote:ay. Charlottesville was noted as being especially hard hit on NPR today.
It's not like that everywhere, but it accumulates in places. I'm glad I have a condo association that pays someone to shovel the way out, otherwise I'd be trapped in here.
