Haha, it just comes out sometimes. Gotta have SOME south shore. It takes more than a couple of drinks to get me drunk, so shots are just easier. So annoying that I don't drink beer, though, since it's cheap. I'm not that into wine, either. I'm so difficult.volsi wrote:You just went all south shore on me. Girl.Kim617 wrote:PLEASE GIRL. I save money and pre-game in my room. We do shots, then we go out. I guess maybe that's more a sign of my age, but I've never had enough money to buy my drinks out, mostly because I think $10 a drink is highway robbery and I won't pay it. It costs $25 bucks for a bottle of alcohol, and it'll do much better. Plus it takes me way too much alcohol to actually get drunk, and will end up costing a fortune. I don't drink beer, though. I hate it. Hard liquor all the way.volsi wrote:Shall we start looking at bars that can host the TLS GULC orientation booze-athon?My typical drinking adventure: Meet with friend after work (~6). Hit a Happy Hour with 3 dollar mixed drinks (one bar has them in pint glasses), drain 2 or 3 in that hour or two, then I'm fine for the rest of the night. Maybe have one more after happy hour. Get home at 9ish, watch some trashy TV, get in bed and still wake up like a normal person the next day. Or you can change the happy hour for a wine bar. I am hugely into wine.
You don't have to pay 10 bucks unless you're out at some grungy meatpacking club, and that's not my scene anyway.

There are tons of bars within 10-15 minutes of the campus in the downtown and capital hill neighborhoods (and likely in China town, but I don't know for sure). There is neither a need for a metro nor one that will bring you to the Hill. The hardest bars to get to will be the ones in Georgetown. But for an easy trip from campus, theres the capital brewing company, two irish pubs, and a few bars in union station all within a 5 minute walk.

I understand. I'm the same way. You can get the girl out of Staten Island... But, do you really want everyone in this thread in your Gewirz dorm room, drinking Stoli and Jager? It's gonna be a bit crowded. That's why I suggested the bar. We can converge on your apartment the next time.Kim617 wrote:

Now, which of you natives can tell me how I can replace my beloved East Village wine bar, complete with grotto-like ceiling, boutique italian wines, no snobbery and excellent cheeses?
NB: I am certified in wines and spirits.

So it's probably not a big deal, but I'm wondering what day is considered the actual day that one has applied for subsidized and unsubsidized loans. Is it when I sent in my needaccess and yellow form or the day that I filled out my MPN?

Re: GULC c/o 2013
I feel like I've been asking tons of stupid financial aid questions, but I guess I might as well ask a few more. It asked for "amounts applied for", which seems to imply that we already applied elsewhere. All I did was the MPN and entrance counseling, and I never indicated how much aid I was applying for anywhere. Did you just put in the amounts that you are NOW applying for? Did you ever apply for that amount previous to filling out the "blue form"?MSPeast wrote:I went ahead and applied after all. I went with the day I filled out my MPNs. NeedAccess and Yellow Form were just for GULC to determine our need, and was not an actual loan application.Torvon wrote:So it's probably not a big deal, but I'm wondering what day is considered the actual day that one has applied for subsidized and unsubsidized loans. What if I don't want to take out the full amount of PLUS loans? I have some savings and I want to eat through them 1L year as to accumulate less interest. I'm guessing I put Max on the studentloans site and then the actual amount on the Blue form?MSPeast wrote:
If your stafford loans are 8500/yr and 12000/yr (subsidized/unsubsidized), which they are for most people, you check the "maximum" option.
For PLUS loans (on the blue form), you will fill in the amounts from your aid letter.
However, when you are applying for the PLUS loan through the studentloans.gov website, you will check the "maximum" option on that site only. On the blue form, you will always write in the number from your aid letter for the PLUS loan.

MSPEast, thanks for the info. It just seemed a little funky since the "blue" form seemed to refer to loans in past tense, as if we had already applied for them elsewhere.volsi wrote:What if I don't want to take out the full amount of PLUS loans? Volsi, I'm in pretty much the same boat. I definitely do NOT want to take out the max in PLUS loans, but I'll be taking out the max in Sub/Unsub. So yes, I'm basically going to just put Max on studentloans.gov but the actual amount on the blue form. I'm just a little apprehensive, as I don't want to inadvertently out thousands of dollars of bonus loans, lol.
I'm going to call again tomorrow I guess.

Re: GULC c/o 2013
Are you sure about this part? I just put maximum on all of the loans on the blue form. Obviously they already know what they said I qualify for for the GradPLUS loans since they are the ones that sent me the letter and I'm definitely going to be withdrawing all of it. I was under the impression that they want you to put in actual numbers if it is anything less than what they said you qualify for.MSPeast wrote:If your stafford loans are 8500/yr and 12000/yr (subsidized/unsubsidized), which they are for most people, you check the "maximum" option.
