Georgetown is tied for #1. I'll probably single-handedly make our school alone at #1 next year

Kim- you are totally right. I lived in NYC 6 years and then moved to DC for 3. Not the same at all! Not comparable in any way. BUT they are SUPER CLEAN! (but you can't have food or drink on them)...all I know is I ended up stranded on election night at a party because we forgot that the metro doesn't run all night...Kim617 wrote:true, but what's up with them not running 24/7? everything pales in comparison to the ny subway system...volsi wrote:It's not like we can't take the metro to the bars...
Yeah, I don't know what I'm going to do with that. There's nothing like being able to take the subway home at 4 am. Haven't done that in a while, but it was hilarious when I did.Kim617 wrote:true, but what's up with them not running 24/7? everything pales in comparison to the ny subway system...volsi wrote:It's not like we can't take the metro to the bars...
They have a smart card. You don't get a discount but you can put a ton of money on it and just tap it on the sensor rather than putting the flimsy paper card through the card machine. Also you can pay for parking at metro parking facilities with it.volsi wrote:Yeah, I don't know what I'm going to do with that. There's nothing like being able to take the subway home at 4 am. Is there anything like an unlimited card option? I live and die by my 30 day metrocard.
i'm really going to need to get used to this system. it's easy enough as a tourist, but getting used to using it all the time might be a little weird. i will NOT, however, miss the MTA and all it's fucking bullshit. nor will i miss my metrocard never working when it has 30 bucks on it, yet it always is fine when my balance is like 3 dollars. shady shit.dk8 wrote:They have a smart card. Question: How long did it take you to get an aid award, after you submitted the yellow form? I imagine it may be a little quicker now, but curious how this has worked thus far...
Also, is there a FB page for admitted students?
i don't remember, sorry! i sent mine in like march 1st, maybe a few weeks later?nowinGA wrote:any answers?nowinGA wrote:Admitted off of the SPWL today!

My first trip to DC was visiting an ex when I was 17. I got fairly proficient at the Metro then, but forgot it in the following 9 years. This is a similar system to LA, though. Except in LA they don't have turnstiles so no one pays. The DC metro is so clear, though. I've never had trouble getting anywhere in DC on any of my visits.dk8 wrote:They have a smart card. It is easy. I was being dramatic. It was hard to adjust (from NYC) but it is nice that you can use it on the many different bus systems as well...the smartcard is, indeed, smart.dk8 wrote:it's really easy to use.Kim617 wrote:

I'm from the sticks aka the outer suburbs, but I went to one bar that is supposedly a GULC hangout last summer. Standard Irish bar with a frat house type basement. Saw a few kids wearing their gulc gear on the porch.beef wellington wrote:Outstanding thinking there volsi. PLEASE GIRL. I save money and pre-game in my room. We do shots, then we go out. I guess maybe that's more a sign of my age, but I've never had enough money to buy my drinks out, mostly because I think $10 a drink is highway robbery and I won't pay it. It costs $25 bucks for a bottle of alcohol, and it'll do much better. Plus it takes me way too much alcohol to actually get drunk, and will end up costing a fortune. I don't drink beer, though. I hate it. Hard liquor all the way.volsi wrote:Shall we start looking at bars that can host the TLS GULC orientation booze-athon?

Yeah, it is easy. I've taken it quite a few times, it's just something to get used to when you come from new york, and you know all the transfer points and all the lines. The DC metro is much more simple, besides the fare details.nowinGA wrote:It is easy. I was being dramatic. That feels like a lot more than I'm used to, although I don't buy liquor much. Maybe I'm thinking of wine, which goes for ~$10. Are big handles of liquor really that much?
At any rate, pre-gaming is where it's at. Although I'm sure there will be nights where my one goal is to not black out, in which case the expensive bar drinks may be to my advantage.
You just went all south shore on me. Girl.Kim617 wrote:PLEASE GIRL. I save money and pre-game in my room. We do shots, then we go out. Wine makes me too tired. In Italy, we used to buy bottles of wine for 1 euro because we had no money and needed to pregame with something. I'd say a bottle of smirnoff vodka is about 22 bucks (in NYC or sometimes I go to Jersey, maybe it'll be $20). I just happen to prefer shots because they're quick, so it's unlikely that I'll go to a bar with the strict idea of getting drunk without pre-gaming, unless it's open bar of course.MSPeast wrote:Kim617 wrote:It costs $25 bucks for a bottle of alcohol![]()
