Yes, thank you.paralegal wrote:Jericwithers -
1) In the 2010 Enrolled Student Information packet, under Tuition Payments, the language reads "loans are disbursed at the beginning of the semester." This language suggests that loans are disbursed per semester.
2) Haven't read anything specific to this question. However, I would tend to believe that the loan amount could be increased if necessary.
Best to contact Financial Aid to get straight answers.
I did read that we should sign up for "direct deposit." - If you choose to borrow enough to also cover living expenses, the remaining amount will be refunded to you directly into your checking account through direct deposit.
Hope that helps....

I hope he gets in at Harvard, but having him in our class instead would definitely be our gain and Harvard's loss.paralegal wrote:Someones Alt -

EDIT: I called financial aid and you were right paralegal: loans are dispersed at the start of each semester and you can increase the amount of your loans from one semester to the next relatively easily. Also found out, not sure if this relevant to anyone else though, that to get a in-school deferment for UG loans you have to fill out a form once classes start and Duke will process the rest. I guess with the 6 month grace period of repayment the subsidized loans won't accrue any interest over the summer. Very nice people in the financial aid office; I should have made the call to them before bothering any of you with my problems lol.

Thanks for posting financial aid info.....
I agree - everyone that I've spoken to at Duke Law from Financial Aid to Admissions....has been incredibly nice. One time I called John Ahlers - He spent about 45 minutes on the phone with me...didn't rush through the conversation at all....
We're definitely heading to a great law school with a very supportive community. I heard that on Thanksgiving, law students that don't go home for whatever reason, are invited to dinner at the Dean's home....that's pretty cool....

You are just jealous I thought of it first. Im a business student; crap like that is the only thing I learned in UG. If I was a true gunner though I wouldn't have shared my plans with the rest of you.thickfreakness wrote:[img]Gunner/img]Jericwithers wrote: Wow, that is amazing. Yes! Many thanks for the ODP, paralegal. I think even the crickets were starting to head out from here. Anyway, I'll be heading down post-August 1st, too. Probably the 10th onward.paralegal wrote:Obligatory Daily Post -

Thanks for the bump. I'm moving sometime after July 23rd, just booked the movers to load everything up then, so we'll unload sometime between July 25th and August 2nd I think. Very exciting stuff.paralegal wrote:Obligatory Daily Post -

Did you visit the Forest in person? Have heard great things about management, but conflicting information about the apartments themselves. Would love any comments if you have any!Reedie wrote:I'm going to live in a studio in The Forest.

Yeah...something along those lines. As someone who once contemplated sleeping in my garage when I saw a spider once, it may not be for me, I guess.Reedie wrote:Nope, I haven't seen them. If you read the story, the problem was a neighbor with unsanitary living habits. That can happen *anywhere*.rotflawl wrote:Yeah...something along those lines. I meant the partners, but still good to have fellow Californians out in Durham.strokes788 wrote:

EDIT: The partners "here" (all from T14 law schools) - "here" meaning in my department (the partners I work with everyday)....those partners are actually "all" from the T14.....those are the partners that are "aware" of my plans to attend Duke and are thrilled for me...
In terms of the "entire" office - this is a large Biglaw firm with 100+ attorneys at this location....and this is a So Cali office, so of course, there are partners from UCLA and USC....

Re: Duke Class of 2013
Since Duke is in North Carolina I get a bit confused when someone talks about USC. It could just as likely mean South Carolina as it could So-Cal.
In other "Obligatory Daily Post" news, I've realized I'm going to miss Austin
. Still excited about the move, but less so about the actual process of moving. What is everyone else doing for moving? I hear talk about professional movers and pods and such, but I was just planning on loading a pickup and driving that. Only problem I can see is I would have to buy a new couch once I got to Duke; but NC is known for its furniture production so it wouldn't be too much of a hassle to get a nice couch for pretty cheap, right?

Haha, I think we have the copyright for the use of "USC." I wouldn't want you breaking any laws or anything.Jericwithers wrote:Since Duke is in North Carolina I get a bit confused when someone talks about USC. It could just as likely mean South Carolina as it could So-Cal.
I'm moving down my small stuff/clothes and having a bed, couch, and other (?) large items delivered from some store...which I will figure out later. I'm not too picky for it to be a big deal.Jericwithers wrote:In other "Obligatory Daily Post" news, I've realized I'm going to miss Austin. That makes more sense then, as I remembered your firm was in socal. Yet if I remember correctly you are anxious to move back to the humid east? One of the fewparalegal wrote:Reedie wrote:Really, nobody from UCLA or USC?

It seems like I run into a lot more people from SC going to law school than UCLA. Odd, since UCLA is bigger and a fair number of the students in my sections seemed to want to go to law school.
Re moving:
I'm packing up the most essential stuff in my honda civic, and driving across the country with it. I will buy a decent bed, but everything else I'll try to get dirt cheap from thirft stores. My moving tip: you are likely to be moving AGAIN in 3 years. Don't buy anything worth keeping, as it just ain't worth the expense and headache of having to move it.

We're using professional movers but only because my wife's new job pays for relocation expenses.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
