Re: UVA Class of 2013
Hey all... looking for a roommate for a 2BR apartment at Ivy Gardens. Haven't reserved anything yet, but want to get things rolling. PM me if you might be interested.
Pretty much just looking for someone who can be chill and respectful (and doesn't smoke/use drugs). Would like to keep the place relaxed and the partying outside. Also please don't have any baby children. one time i was rooming with a guy who didnt know he had a child with this crazy coke fiend and it winded up ruining a semester at college for me and that was really terrible.

Re: UVA Class of 2013
I don't understand all these roommate requests.
Personally, I wanted a heroin-addict for a roommate with at least two children, preferably an individual that supplements her income (and helps pay for her out-of-wedlock children) by turning tricks on the living room sofa. I figured that having a roommate like this will force me to spend time in the library and out of the apartment, improving both my academic and social life. Sure, I'll have to keep a gun under my pillow, but who doesn't these days with those wild kids and their internets?
After much deliberation, however, I figured that none of these people would get past Dean Trujillo (though possibly at Darden, or the med school - free access for their fix) and elected for a single in Ivy Gardens.

Is Ivey Gardens full already? Is that were most of you guys will be living?
Edit: When is orientation and when do classes start? When do most plan on moving to Charlottesville? Beginning of August?

So...I've never lived out of the house and I'm totally new to the whole..."housing" thing. Anyone have any advice for where I should look? I'm really not looking forward to rooming with four strangers for a year otherwise.
Edit: Well, that was a problem that was easily solved by just reading the thread.

good decision going for the single. it would have been terrible if you held out for that type of gal. they're usually respectful enough to throw you some cash for using the couch, but in the end it's not worth the troubles.SweetnessUVA wrote:I don't understand all these roommate requests.

Moving in at least a week before is a really good idea. I moved in 1 week before and it gave me time to settle in and take care of things before classes started.YCrevolution wrote:I think I've said this before (maybe in another thread), but I'd recommend moving in at least 1 week, preferably 2+ weeks (which is what you're planning), before school starts.
From the day orientation begins, you will be busy. Plan to get all moving stuff done before then! Seriously!

Due to the fact that I still believe that it must be some kind of mistake that I was accepted, what are all the things I have to do before school starts? I'm aware of the following:
- Transcript from UG
- Two $500 deposits
Is that it?

Fafsa and financial aid form that we do not have access to yet. We need a login that apparently we won't get til springtime. This is of course unless you are paying for law school the way Randy Moss pays for his NFL fines...straight cash homey.SweetnessUVA wrote:Due to the fact that I still believe that it must be some kind of mistake that I was accepted, what are all the things I have to do before school starts? Re: UVA Class of 2013
How expensive is it to live in Charlottesville, not including rent?
Sample budget per month:
Utilities?
Groceries?
Going out to eat (by this I mean grabbing breakfast/lunch on campus when you forgot to bring something)?
Entertainment (clubs/bars, restaurants, etc.)?
Miscellaneous?

So, I would have loved to go ahead and do on-campus housing. Too bad, as others have noted, I don't have a firm idea regarding when I'll get the Student ID I need to do so.
I also wanted to add that I really am excited about this school. I was not expecting to get in and now that I have I'm still a little shocked.

To my knowledge, everyone who is accepted gets an email saying something like, please call me at xxx-xxx-xxxx number, and then they tell you on the phone.

This is how I was notified. I'm wondering if they only sent the acceptance information after the call. I got two e-mails the day after.aznflyingpanda wrote:To my knowledge, everyone who is accepted gets an email saying something like, please call me at xxx-xxx-xxxx number, and then they tell you on the phone.
On a side note, can someone who is attending UVA at the moment answer the question about the workload? If anything, I'm just hoping there's enough time to see some of the events on campus. I saw the Center of Politics section of the school website and almost nerded out.

Re: UVA Class of 2013
I ended up in Wolf Creek, Colorado. The conditions were tied with the best I had ever skiied (Park City March 2007) and there were absolutely no lines. The only negative is that I have 180cm shaped skies that really didn't like the powder very much. I stuck pretty hard right below the summit and performed an epic yard sale.SweetnessUVA wrote:lilspainishflea wrote:Anyone out there looking for a roommate and want to live in Ivy? I'm a 25 year old guy but I've had female roommates before without any problems so I'm ok with guys or girls. PM me if you're interested and we can talk about philosophies and interests.
Now I'm off to claim my reward for flying 50 hours in the last 4 days...110" of fresh powder!![]()

Congrats to everyone that's been admitted - looking forward to meeting ya'll at ASW. Have a great rest of the weekend!
Where are you going? Be careful if you're going in the backcountry - the snowpack this season has been awful (serious amounts of depth hoar).
Overall, amazing weekend!

Re: UVA Class of 2013
I don't see how would hurt UVA in any way. If anything it gives them more control over the make up of their incoming class. It's not like their new medians are going to be I don't know just pulling numbers out of the air here 3.7 and 169 or anything truly TTT like that.hopefulundergrad wrote:Does anyone else feel that this new ED thing is making UVA seem pretty TTT?
