How many six figure non NALP 250 jobs are out there?
I would guess the secondary markets have many of these.

I'm going to assume you meant NLJ 250 and not NALP 250.
There are definitely more than 250 law firms in the country that pay six figures.

You are right, there are many NLJ 250 that pay 100k+, but I'd say almost all of them are listed on NALP.org If you are looking for higher paying job in secondary markets, that is usually a good place to look. For firms that pay between 80k and 100k, they are not always on NALP and you probably need to ask your career office (if you are in that) secondary market) or even try to contact the career office of a law school in that secondary market.

There are a decent number of market (or close to market) paying non-nlj 250 firms. The problem is that many of those firms are boutiques that either recruit largely from the lateral market or have standards that are greater than or equal to V10 firms. What you're probably looking for is that mythical beast, midlaw.

FWIW, my home secondary market has something like 15 firms paying six figures and only 5 are NLJ250. A few are elite boutiques (lots of T14 LR, CoA clerkship people) while the rest are what most would consider MidLaw.

I was unaware that DOJ honors was a firm in JSUVA2012's hometown that pays 6 figures o.0?Renzo wrote:Outside of DOJ honors? I answered in the broad context of the thread, not the narrow context of JSUVA's hometown. The correct answer is still zero.
Most of those firms hire like 3-5 per year.
But any firm hiring a decent number per year is going to eventually be NLJ250. So why anyone would find it notable that non-NLJ250 firms hire relatively few graduates is beyond me.

...like every single IP boutique in the entire nation.

Do people seriously think six-figure jobs are THAT rare outside of the NLJ250?

In house at tech and/or fortune 500 firm... so - lots. You don't HAVE to work at a law firm. A LOT of lawyers are in-house counsel at major corps and can make a lot of money.

Very hard to get these types of jobs without a few years of legal experience...j2d3 wrote:In house at tech and/or fortune 500 firm... so - lots. You don't HAVE to work at a law firm. A LOT of lawyers are in-house counsel at major corps and can make a lot of money.

Yes, I agree, but I didn't say these jobs were easy to get. OP only asked how many exist. These jobs do exist, and they often compensate in the mid 200's.

I took the question to mean "right out of law school." It is kind of a silly question if you don't assume "right out of law school".
I don't think there are any corporate in house jobs that pay mid-200s to recent law school grads, regardless of prior experience. If you are talking 5-10 years post JD it's another story.

Nobody makes that kind of money right out of law school working in-house.

Exxon hires new people at 135k. Getting an offer is on par with getting one from the V20.
