1L summer internships

Post by JPeavy44 » Wed Nov 04, 2009 7:52 pm

I want to intern for a judge, probably a superior court judge since I'm only a 1L. Should 1L's even be worrying about this right now and trying to get our stuff out on 12/1? Or is focusing on grades more important and apply later during winter break?

Do it now. 12/1 is only for NALP.

Does anyone know if you should apply to judges individually for summer internships? In the state I'm interested in, everyone applies to one central pool for clerkships and then the judges select from that (I think thats the normal method in most states). Are judicial internship hirings done the same way?

In CA, I believe the first day you can apply for the judicial externships is 12/1. You should get your app in that day since there's so much competition. 1L grades are still more important but its not that hard to get your resume and apps ready if you have a cooperative CDO

Your CDO should provide you a list of judges in the area you want to extern and then you can contact them individually.
