hey i was wondering wat firms look for in candidates during OCI? is it a straight numbers game like law school admissions or do they consider other factors like prior work experience and advanced degrees? how helpful would big4 work experience and a CPA be to someone during OCI? would this help make up for a lower class rank?

Re: biglaw OCI
VERY helpful. One of the few credentials that is an actual asset to the firm. And it will NOT pigeonhole you in tax. All corporate transactional work can use CPA/Lawyers, and if you ever want to lateral to a corporation, it is a major plus.how helpful would big4 work experience and a CPA be to someone during OCI? would this help make up for a lower class rank?
All that said, there are still grade cutoffs at every firm. It is not going to get you a V10 job if your grades aren't great, or if you don't attend a top school. But in this economy, unless you suck at interviewing, it will definitely put you ahead of your peers with similar or slightly higher grades at many V25-V100 firms.
