I just had a terrible thought - do any kinds of 1L summer work (for a prof, firm, non-profits, judges) require letters of recommendation? If so, FML, it'll be a bitch trying to get that put together by the end of the semester...
(While we're on the topic, I'd assume that 2L OCI doesn't require recs since it's all done by resume and interview?)

Both can (and often do) require references. It is not as common to find them asking for letters.

I've never heard of a 1L summer employer requesting a letter of recommendation.
