What would be normal in an average, not amazing economy? 15-20?

Sorry to hear about that. It sounds like you've thought this through quite a bit, though, and hopefully your strategic bidding will pay off with a few callbacks. I'm starting 1L at GULC next week, so from one Hoya to another: good luck with the interviews.

Still not to late to cut your losses and drop out. Look at it this way, successful people with little debt will be successful anywhere, whether it be in law or some other field. However if you don't land biglaw, 6 figure debt will make success much tougher to attain, even for very high achievers who happen to miss the biglaw boat.

That sucks man. I was pretty pissed I only ended up with 11 interviews at Michigan, and then with fill-ins around 23 (because I figured people that started around 20--most people-- ended with around 30+ with fill-ins). But 10 interviews, at a lower ranking school, that's just brutal. On the other hand, if everyone is bidding on DC, then that is understandable with how hyper-competitive DC is this year. Good luck.

That seems like a high number for Mich. I don't know anyone who started above, or, in fact, anyone who ended up interviewing with more than 20. 14-19 was the range for people I talked to, with a couple doing fewer when their markets were sparsely represented.

Sigh. Things are so much different this year. I agree that you might not have been conservative enough. Other people can disagree, but at least 50% of my interviews at CLS were at firms either being EXTREMELY exclusive or pretty much not hiring. So, cut your number of interviews in half and I would say that is a more realistic number. (sorry if this post makes little sense).

I got 12 and targeted both NY and DC. How was your first day, bvw?

And I'm sure several of us post on xoxo (I do), but a lot are probably reluctant because of the factory and ttt insults.

I know this is an ignorant question, but what do you mean by "fill-ins"? I got 11 interviews through symplicity and was able to add three more by making a special request with the firms I was especially interested in? Did you fill-in the rest through the waitlist system on symplicity?

Welcome to the economy. CLS averaged 15 this year for those who bid NYC exclusively. Historical #s are almost double that.

You know what they say: You only need one.
Best of luck.

Why does this comment require anonymity?

And ouch @ 10. Do employers prescreen at GULC? How many days of interviews are there?

No pre-screening here.

I heard of one guy getting 17, but he's an anomaly.

Sorry that wasn't very clear. Basically each interviewer had a sign posted on the door of the interview room in which he was interviewing that indicated who was interviewing at what time broken down in 20 or 30 minute slots. So say an interviewer had 15 slots for the day but only 12 were filled (because only 12 people bid on the firm), then we were allowed to simply "fill-in" our names on the sign posted to the door, and shazaam, you have another interview at that time. In the past there were probably a TON of open slots slots, but this year we lost a lot a of employers (even then there was obviously a lot of open slots since I was able to fill-in on 12 interview slots).

Slightly off topic, but another reason for the relatively few commenting Hoyas is that some of us aren't doing EIW (and I can think of another regular poster who I don't think is taking part either)!! So...I've got two internship interviews for the fall on Friday, does that count?

I transferred from GULC to a T10 and didn't see a huge difference between my GULC and new school's numbers, although I wasn't bidding on NYC or DC. When I contacted GULC's career services to tell them that I was transferring, I asked how many interviews I received and they told me 13 (I don't know how many of those interviews included the top firms in the market though). At my new school I got 16 interviews, including all the top firms. Overall, it was not that big of a difference. I hope this makes you feel better.

He's not far from the truth, though; only HYS can reasonably be said to be sitting pretty right now.
I have heard that even some Harvard kids were getting screwed at OCI...though granted I'd imagine that the vast majority of the class is still doing pretty damn well for themselves.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
