Re: OCI/callbacks/etc Men's Clothing Mega-thread
What shoe would you recommend for someone who really doesn't have any money to be spending on shoes. I don't need it to last - I just need it to look good for OCI and CBs.
Here are some options I'm thinking about:
http://www.zappos.com/giorgio-brutini-66061-black
http://www.zappos.com/bass-arcadia-black
http://www.zappos.com/robert-wayne-madison-black
Are any of these acceptable?
ETA:
I would like a pair of these: http://www.zappos.com/giorgio-brutini-21050-black-white
I used to swing dance and had a pair like these specifically made for dancing. Those were the most expensive shoes I've ever worn.

Take a look at eBay. I actually got a pair of AE Park Avenues in really good shape for ~$50 with shipping. After initial oiling I put them next to my brand-new AE Players and would have had a very difficult time telling you which was newer.

The shoes you posted are all pretty bad, IMO, but that doesn't mean you need to splash out on Allen Edmonds. Personally, I Find the cap toe on AEs to be way too short and make the whole shoe look out of proportion, so I'd never wear them to OCI or otherwise. Each to their own though.thelaststraw05 wrote:What shoe would you recommend for someone who really doesn't have any money to be spending on shoes. You want something less chunky looking/more elegant than the shoes you posted. I'd stay away from thick rubber soles and split toes. There are plenty of solid options on Zappos for under $100, but if you can afford it, it is probably worth thinking beyond OCI and getting something that will last into your professional career. If that isn't an option, check out:

For just a bit more, you can get a pair of Cole Haan or Johnston & Murphy shoes, both of which are really nice and good quality in most cases.

Are interviewers as anal as TLSers? Will they look at like non-brandname shoes and go "Wow this guy is a peasant, I must ding him"?

No. The point is to not stick out due to your clothing in any way. As long as your shoes are traditional black cap toes with leather soles, they will be completely unassuming.Anonymous User wrote:Are interviewers as anal as TLSers? The only difference in brand name is the quality that will last you for years vs. only being good enough for OCI/CBs/maybe for your SA.
It's not like the shoes have a gigantic pony on the side of the shoe indicating the brand. Same with suits.

Re: OCI/callbacks/etc Men's Clothing Mega-thread
There's also nothing wrong with brown shoes with a navy or grey suit, and they certainly don't have to be cap toed. This thread is more about giving people a totally safe route to take at OCI than about laying down the rules that everyone needs to follow in order to get an offer.PennBull wrote:No. The point is to not stick out due to your clothing in any way. These are on the higher end of your price range, but would certainly do the job: http://www.zappos.com/cole-haan-caldwell-black

Re: OCI/callbacks/etc Men's Clothing Mega-thread
The take-away is that TCR is a black cap toe with a non-rubber sole?
I've had comfort issues with cap toes in the past. The ball of my foot is pretty wide and cap toes often are less flexible up front.
Anyone know who would fit best given that fact?

Pretty sure my dress shoes have a rubber sole, but that's because I literally have about 2 options for dress shoes in my size. HOW WILL I EVER GET A JOB!?!?

Yeah they won't notice as long as the uppers look alright. Rubber soled shoes generally are SPS, which is the real issue. I think leather soles are generally way better looking and more fashionable than rubber, but you aren't going to get dinged for this or anything unless the shoes are ugly generally.kaiser wrote:You are joking, right? of course they won't notice, nor would they at all care even in the .01% chance that they did notice.Anonymous User wrote:I have rubber sole shoes. Re: OCI/callbacks/etc Men's Clothing Mega-thread
Okay I just read through the last ~125 posts on this board with the word "shoes" in them, and didn't find the answer to this question. Do I need shoes with laces for OCI, or can I get away with something like this:
http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&hl=en ... 0,s:0,i:73
If these aren't okay, I'm gonna have to buy new shoes ASAP...
Thanks in advance!

Anyone want to break this tie? Are laces an absolute must?

Re: OCI/callbacks/etc Men's Clothing Mega-thread
Yes. Get laces, some sort of traditional cap toe. While most of the post in this thread are terribly OCD and irrelevant, traditional lace-up capmtoes are a must.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
