Any input on this, guys?
Go with the Johnston & Murphy Melton cap-toe over that. For the same price range, it has better features (cap-toe and leather sole).

Agree. Normally I think AE is pretty high quality, but something about that shoe looks "cheap."

Unfortunately, I really can't wear the Meltons. They are too fucking narrow (even in 3E form). I have wide feet and the J&M run ridiculously narrow, IMO. I've heard the same from the shop I buy my suits at, too (I had to find out if I was crazy or not).

I really don't like most of the Chestnut colored plain/cap toes out there other than the Meltons and the Provo. If anyone has any recommendations in the under $200 range for a chestnut plain/cap toe, please let me know.

Like I said -- definitely not for OCI, but for general SA position office wear.

There are often lots of brand new AE shoes available on Ebay for-sub $200 "Buy It Now" transactions.

Would these ties all be appropriate for OCI with a white shirt and charcoal/navy suit?

http://www.thetiebar.com/order_page.asp ... nValueIds=

http://www.thetiebar.com/order_page.asp ... sTiesOnly=

http://www.thetiebar.com/order_page.asp ... sTiesOnly=

?

I was thinking of buying all three and then just rotating them for interviews, provided they would all work with both navy suit & white shirt as well as charcoal suit and white shirt.

I wouldn't get the grenafaux, ever. I'd get the burgundy pindot instead of the red too.

I have the red pin dot and the navy pin dot. All three are appropriate for interviews, although the red is a bit loud. I would also recommend the burgundy pin dot in (which I also own) in place of the red pin dot. It's more understated and goes great with navy. I don't like the grenafaux, although it would be perfectly appropriate in any context.

Uh, the first one is the best one for OCI.

All three are acceptable but I agree that shade of red is a bit bold.

I just think its a better use of your money to save up and buy an actual grenadine than buying a grenafaux.

I wouldn't wear it (I think grenadine ties are typically the wrong, trying-too-hard kind of retro; even faux ones), but the grenafaux is probably fine for an interview because it's merely a normal textured weave. You wouldn't want to wear a real grenadine (or any other actual knit) to an interview.

I second the burgundy and navy pindot suggestions.

Blue denotes trust (sidenote: which is why the FBI works it into their uniforms whenever possible). With my sample size of one, I wore only blue ties and did just dandy in OCI.

I'm an incoming 1L this fall at a T6, and I'm trying to square away my wardrobe for the first year. I have no fashion sense and you style bros are legit life savers. Do I need anything for 1L other than:

Formal (1L SA interviews, firm receptions, etc.) -
1 Charcoal JAB Signature Suit (tailored professionally - somewhere other than JAB)
2 White JAB Traveler Tailored Fit Pinpoint Solid Point Collar Dress Shirts
2 ties (pindot navy & pindot crimson - Tiebar)
1 pair black Akron Bostonians
6 pairs charcoal dress socks
1 black dress belt matching shoes in color, grain, etc.

Biz Casual (RA interview)-
2 Traveler Tailored Fit Pinpoint Solid Buttondown Collar Dress Shirts (one blue/ one light blue)
1 Pair Charcoal JAB Traveler Tailored Fit Plain Front Trousers
Wear Black shoes and charcoal socks

Should this get me through 1L? Do I need anything else - blazer (if, so what color)? khakis? brown shoes? loafers? I own literally nothing except what I plan on buying above ^^^^.

Ty so much IA!!

That will get you through the year, but if I made one suggestion it would be the shoes. Those Akrons will look like total shit by the end of the year, because they are terrible shoes. If they are in good shape now you can probably wear them through 1L, but my pair of those made it like 5 wears in college before they looked terrible.

Agree 100%. Don't waste money on shoes that are going to be trash within a year.

If you can afford it, a blue blazer is good for your biz casual stuff (these are incredibly versatile). Also I'm not sure why you are buying two pairs of charcoal pants. Get another color (a different shade of gray, perhaps).

As long as we're on thetiebar ties, what about lighter blues for SA contexts, such as http://www.thetiebar.com/order_page.asp ... alueIds=14 or http://www.thetiebar.com/order_page.asp ... alueIds=14

Also, on the AE shoes posted above: (1) the Provo and other cheaper models are part of a non-USA made line that probably isn't in any way comparable to the quality of their more expensive shoes, and (2) I'm not sure if someone has mentioned this earlier, but the PA in black and Strand in walnut brown (probably their two best sellers) are usually available at Nordstrom's huge summer sale in July for ~$200. I'm personally holding out on buying new dress shoes until then. There's also going to be a huge sale at AE stores in two weeks (90th Anniversary Sale), but I don't know what will be in it yet.

Is this watch appropriate/conservative enough to wear at OCI?

I'd say yes. I actually own that same watch.

Not for interviews, but what do you guys think of this shirt for work-related?

http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatProd ... 5-1/2%2032#

Is it too noisy? Or perfectly fine? It's on clearance, so a good price.

With a tie or no tie? I think it would look great as business casual. Generally button-down collars with ties are not preferred.

Thanks romo! Wasn't aware of this distinction. I might pass on it then -- would rather have a shirt that could be used in both contexts.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
