Bad idea to leave the law?

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Jan 06, 2026 11:59 am

I like learning about the law, drafting, research, going to court, advising clients, etc., but good job opportunities are so hard to come by, at least where I live.
I'm about 3 years into practice (all public defense). I graduated with zero debt thanks to scholarships and support from family. I've managed to save, too.

I'm worried about getting stuck in these low-paying jobs with no growth, like PD or insurance defense. I do enjoy legal practice; I just don't see a way to move up.

Start your own firm. You can make more than PD in year 1 doing exactly the same thing you're doing right now.
