Skadden/ W&C Rx
Wondering how are Skadden’s and White & Case’s restructuring practices currently perceived in the market compared to their peers? Are they seen as go-to shops for major matters, and what trends (growth, client base, deal flow, etc.) suggest where each practice is heading over the next few years?

Re: Skadden/ W&C Rx
I'm in the market. Neither firm is at the top table (Davis Polk, Gibson, Kirkland, etc) or on the rung immediately below (e.g. Ropes, Kramer, Paul Hastings) - in each case, firms where restructuring is a really important part of the business and with a group that doesn't rely on someone else's cross-selling.
W&C obviously has Lauria, but not sure what they've done lately outside Dish (which surely hasn't gone quite the way they'd prefer). Skadden has a better platform but similarly hasn't done anything big since to my knowledge - they did not exactly do a lights out job on Endo and that's the last time they were in the spotlight. Presuming you're choosing between the two, go where you feel more at home and evaluate in three or four years: those firms will let you lateral "up" (if that's what you want) and have real attorneys doing credible work. If you're not certain about doing RX, tie goes to Skadden as a firm with stronger corporate and litigation practices.
