Post-doj career advice
I graduated law school (hys) 12 years ago; clerked; worked as an associate at a large firm; and then spent the last handful of years in doj- first as an ausa and then in main justice.
I’m starting to think about next career steps. I’m wondering if folks have any insights on the below questions. As the questions suggest, I’m trying to balance the potential for higher earning with a desire to still be an active parent / spouse. Thanks very much for any info or advice.
1. Based on my experience, would I be competitive for a partnership position, or is counsel more realistic (in nyc)?
2. Are there any market-paying firms in nyc that are known for comparatively better work-life balance (and flexible telework policies)?
3. (Especially in the answer to 2 is no) What does an average litigating in-house position pay? Are those positions extremely few and far between?
4. Is the lateral legal market so saturated right now that it makes sense to wait?
Any other general advice is welcome. Thanks again, very much.

What type of AUSA or DOJ work? That can make a big difference on your marketability.

Op here- thanks, I should have mentioned that. Focus has been white collar work throughout.

You'll likely clench Of Counsel to be honest. They'll test run you for a year or two. I don't work in NYC, so can't tell you much. My market wouldn't have you come in as a partner, unless there was a really random and special circumstance - and I'm not sure you want to come in as one either depending on overhead buyin.

Of Counsel may be your best option if concerned about work/life balance. Of Counsel agreements can be tailored to one's situation.
Partnership option is unlikely anywhere except for a small firm.

What do you think OP could expect for salary as Of Counsel? Let's say major market such as NY.
Is 750 too high?
