Law school transfers
Suppose you’ve had a perfect record and are up in your 30s and want to attend law school, as you have some goal of utilizing that degree in a non legal capacity.
Also suppose that while always having a clear record there may be a pending case open based on false allegations you don’t want to deal with now since there isn’t a warrant or open case, while could be charges filed with some court being unserved not knowing your current address. So you want to attend law school and want to assure acceptance, but not interested in sitting for the bar
If you fill out you have no criminal history and get accepted at ucla or southern cal could they background anyway and see an unserved case?
After 1l if you transfer to Berkeley or Stanford would they background check or likely not either? And how do you know? Hoping for a no for both

This is an all around terrible idea. Honesty is the best policy, and you're only doing yourself a disservice by attempting to hide the truth. Regardless of whether you can, in fact, gain admission to any of these schools without disclosing, I can't think of an employer (legal or not) that would care about a Berkeley or SLS JD on the one hand, but on the other hand would not care that you lied to get it. Facts like these have a sneaky way of coming out in the long run.lawschoolsplit2023 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 6:13 pmSuppose you’ve had a perfect record and are up in your 30s and want to attend law school, as you have some goal of utilizing that degree in a non legal capacity.

Separately, what do you mean by a "pending case" that is not an "open case?" I presume this is a criminal case? Are you really flying under the radar enough that they can't find you? If not, then how is the case serious enough to be something you can't explain away in an application and yet not serious enough for an out-of-state warrant? I'm no criminal lawyer, but this sounds fishy.
FWIW, I was arrested after sitting for the bar, had the charges dropped, and told the bar everything. They admitted me, and I've been practicing in biglaw ever since.

Hi thanks for your reply.
What I mean about possibly open case is: when charges are sent to your last known address and if by chance you see the envelope on usps informed delivery preview but you can’t track certified court letter down nor do they send it to your address on drivers license, so it’s an unserved summons, and there is no warrant in police system nor reportedly open cases when you call court due to unserved summons.
Also, per my question, I just would really like to know does schools like ucla Berkeley Stanford criminally background check accepted students? If not direct admits, what about transfers, I just can’t see how they do or would

I'd talk to a lawyer about the unserved criminal summons bro there might eventually be a warrant for your arrest out. Yes, I bet that every law school background checks transfer students but don't know that.

Thanks. It’s been 6 months since whatever certified letter I couldn’t track down was sent, so I’d think warrant would’ve been in first 6 mos if was going to happen
As for background checking transfers you just mean checking their educational and employment information not a criminal background I’d imagine?

No i think the standard background check includes a criminal background check. It's not like a criminal case being opened against you just goes away because you didn't get the summons.

Re: Law school transfers
Ok. You never had a background check I’m sure as a law student so why do you suppose transfers would do one?

Re: Law school transfers
Don’t you need permission to do a background check on someone and I haven’t heard of schools making an applicant sign for that

First anon again. I don't have any insider knowledge, but a quick google search indicates that many schools will not perform a criminal background check. But they will ask you about it, and the bar examiners will perform a background check to compare to your answers. Even if you don't sit for the bar, your employer will most likely perform a criminal background check and will likely find whatever it is that has you considering submitting a fraudulent law school application. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that charges + lying/fraud looks way worse than just charges.lawschoolsplit2023 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 10:39 pmDon’t you need permission to do a background check on someone and I haven’t heard of schools making an applicant sign for that
Please just do the right thing. If you're considering anything else, I would highly recommend talking to a lawyer that actually does this work instead of looking for the answer you want on a random forum.
