Got Cold Offered - What Now?

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Jul 25, 2024 6:13 pm

In a smaller secondary market. Got cold offered yesterday. It's totally my fault for phoning it in and I'm disgusted at myself and in shock and committed to making sure that never happens again.

Not sure what to do next. Do firms even hire 3Ls? Wouldn't a biglaw firm essentially know I was cold-offered by the fact that I'm looking for another firm job?

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you just want a job, say that your firm conditioned your offer on you joining its litigation group, but you're passionate about the capital markets or something. Try not to laugh or cry when you say it.

Again, they're forcing me to do lit, but all I wanna do and all I ever really wanna do is corp. Simple as.

Especially since this was in a small secondary market, the other obvious move is that it turns out you have compelling family/personal/career reasons to be in [different market] so you're exploring opportunities there.

I was not cold offered but did some 3L recruiting because my SO got an opportunity they couldn't turn down in a different city. My resume said "offer received" and nothing else, but no questioned my rationale for applying (or even asked if I had been cold offered). I got 3? 4? offers at competitive shops in that market fairly quickly.

Process moves quick tho, you need to make these moves ASAP.
