GDC Rotational System?

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Jul 16, 2024 11:42 pm

Got a GDC offer and supposedly their rotational system allows first and second years to try all four practice areas (litigation, corporate transactions, real estate, and tax). Anyone have experience with this or know how true it is in practice? Can you really jump around between litigation and corporate?

GDC summer here. The answer is yes. There's absolutely no centralized assignment system or assignment coordinator. When you get to Gibson, you have to just reach out to partners you're interested in working with, get coffee with them, and ask to work on their matters. No one cares what other assignments you're working on (or what practice areas they're in) as long as you do good work for them.

Now, people tend to lean very heavily towards either corporate or litigation (all litigation people I know think corporate work sounds terrible and boring — and emphatically vice versa). But you can definitely switch between the areas.
