In-house startup comp
In-house lawyers at pre-IPO companies - anyone willing to share success stories of negotiating comp packages? What % were you able to bump up your base salary and options/equity relative to the initial offer you received?

Re: In-house startup comp
I negotiated an 8% increase in salary and a 60% increase in equity (fully diluted shares) from the initial offer. The equity percentage is misleading - the initial offer was fairly small, so any increase represents a big percentage increase.
They accommodated this because they were initially looking for a lawyer in a specific practice area. But since I would be the only lawyer, I asked if they would end up asking me to do all the legal work. They said that was likely, so I asked for an upgrade in position from counsel to head of legal.
