Wilmer Financial Institutions

Post by ams2234 » Thu Jun 15, 2023 12:17 am

Interested to hear thoughts on Wilmer’s Financial Institutions Group. Aware that the firm has great regulatory practices but wondering what’s going on behind the scenes in terms of growth vs general flux in this group. Have seen several job postings on LinkedIn without much specificity (e.g., no level of experience or years since graduation) for this group in NY/DC and wondering if the group is generally growing or if they’re looking for a certain profile (3L, first/second years, mid levels, current gov attorneys?).

For what it’s worth, as great as Wilmer can be (at least compared to my peers, the culture seems to be on the friendlier side for biglaw and I’ve enjoyed my interactions with the vast majority of people I’ve worked with, partners included), the Financial Institutions group has a reputation for being tough—demanding partners, lots of work, and chronically understaffed. I think they’re primarily looking for juniors and midlevels. If you’re interested, I’d try to talk to some associates there or who have recently left to get a sense of how it is.

I have heard that Wilmer does not give bonuses. Is that true?

Not true. You can check Above the Law, it gets leaked there most years. Wilmer gives out market bonuses, same as everyone else.
