Hi everyone!

I am really hoping that someone has been a situation similar to mine and could give me advice. I am getting off of a COA clerkship and trying to land a big law/boutique gig. I am currently barred in NY (COVID bar so it's not transferable to another jx) but I need to work in Chicago for family reasons.

I know Quinn is always an option but I am really hoping to avoid that. Is it possible that a biglaw firm in Chicago would be willing to look the other way for a couple years until I can waive in? Am I fucked? Does anyone know any NY firms that offer full remote?

Why not get a job in Chicago and take the first bar that's offered? Biglaw firms often (usually?) let people take some time off to study/take the exam.

You will probably have to take the bar at the earliest opportunity but can get hired and work until then.

Beyond the Covid bar situation, which sucks, this doesn’t seem particularly unusual, lots of people switch jurisdictions after clerkships

You're not asking about how you can work from Chicago, but if you can avoid sitting the Illinois bar. I don't think you can if you want to work in Chicago. Just sit the bar there as soon as you can.
