NY lit market is down?

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Feb 14, 2023 11:54 pm

Looks like NY litigation market is in pretty bad shape. Basically none of the major biglaws hire litigation laterals and post-clerkship hiring becomes very tough right now as it seems. Anyone can confirm the market situation? Will this make firms to force SAs into corp?

There’s a bunch of doom and gloom in the post-clerkship thread, but that’s pretty typical. And maybe it’s just early? Some people don’t land post-clerkship gigs until summer, so a lot of firms might just be biding their time.

Transactional is not more busy than lit so nobody is forcing anyone from lit to corp (a year ago was a different story).

What's happening now is firms have a hiring freeze. Even if they don't admit it or publicly announce it, every firm is limiting hiring until the economic situation is more clear. It's a firmwide policy. So even if lit needs bodies, they can't do anything about it now.
