State Taxes when traveling

Post by Anonymous User » Sun Jan 29, 2023 10:30 pm

Associate at Proskauer now having worked at a few other forms previously and they are really particular about time being recorded to the state you are located in when traveling (to the point that they won’t reimburse expenses while traveling if you’re location in DTE doesn’t match). I now have a hodge podge of 2022 W-2s with state taxes withheld in 3 different states I traveled to in 2022. The amounts are each under $1,000 but will likely cost me just as much to go through the trouble of preparing a return. Never had this at prior firms.

What a nuisance, but the firm is probably right to do so to avoid any liability on their part for improper withholding.

Anon because I used to work there - pretty sure they give you $500 per additional state to help defray that extra cost and inconvenience. Just get an accountant and you’ll probably come out ahead. Places take different interpretations on this state withholding stuff. They are on the more conservative side.
