BigLaw Attorney Social Media Conduct
I've noticed an influx--in recent years--of folks who use their BigLaw credentials to establish a social media following. A few examples:
- A Wilson Sonsoni attorney bashing the demanding hours and lack of 'thank yous' (that's what the money's for, to quote Don Draper)
- A Simpson Thatcher attorney on vacation or shopping at Louis Vuitton every week
- A Wachtell Lipton attorney flipping off the camera whilst scantily-clad
- A Gibson Dunn attorney bragging about his annual salary
What strikes me as odd about the whole enterprise is that in all but one of the aforementioned scenarios, the relevant individuals use their government name and post publicly. That means, these videos and images will often populate directly below their firm profile.
I'm agnostic regarding the subject, but I'm wondering if folks out there think that this is positive progress? Or if it violates basic standards of decorum with which an elite attorney should govern him-/her-/their- self?

It's not like firm management uses either of those two platforms.

Not sure if we're allowed to share links to their profiles on here. But this same attorney was a contestant on the bachelor.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Nov 14, 2022 3:02 pmA Wachtell Lipton attorney flipping off the camera whilst scantily-clad

Re: BigLaw Attorney Social Media Conduct
Kinda doubt she needed big law credentials to develop a social media following if she was on the Bachelor (and she doesn't mention her job anywhere on her IG). I can't comment on the others because I don't know who they are, but also can't get especially worked up about any of it based on the descriptions. Sounds pretty much like biglawyers being biglawyers.

Re: BigLaw Attorney Social Media Conduct
To the point of the Original Poster, I have seen conduct that is shocking, in a Harvard Law School class, that shows a complete disconnect between a student's intelligence and common sense. Above is completely verifiable on internet, since it was discussed by the Harvard professor, in his own voice. On his site. It's so offensive that the Moderators here would probably not allow me to post it. So I won't. So when we see craziness on social media it's not at all surprising. Even from people at the very highest levels of T14.

If a Mod would like to see what I'm referencing directly above from the Harvard Law class and decide if it's too outrageous to post, I'm open to that. It's an eye-opening and dramatic example of a disconnect and a major reason why some smart people don't make partner.

To above anonymous poster, I have no desire to discuss cheese with you. I don't mean to hurt your feelings but I really have nothing to say about cheese. After getting covid I really can't taste cheese that well anyway. Sorry.

Kinda feels like you’re not agnostic op lolMergerQueen wrote: ↑Sun Nov 13, 2022 7:14 pmI'm agnostic regarding the subject, but I'm wondering if folks out there think that this is positive progress? - The Simpson employee has been on vacation once during the summer and she loves to shop on her off time (like many people do). I’m not sure what about these actions would “violate basic standards of decorum”
- for the watchtell associate I think it’s a little weird for you to point out that she’s scantily clad as though that’s a violation of decorum. She’s gifted in the chest area and doesn’t wear baggy clothes to hide them. She has big chest that can be seen in her tops and bikinis (like regular ppl). I’m gonna guess since you know who these ppl are you weren’t born in the 60s but if you are we are trying to move past policing women’s bodies outside the office simply because they are more developed. Could not find the pic of her flipping off the camera.
Yes lawyers should have “decorum” but they’re regular people too
