Perception of Asia/UK experience when lateraling to the US Forum

Assuming capital markets or investment funds experience at a large firm, how viable is it to return as a lateral to the US? This would be starting out at either Asia (HK, Singapore) or London with little to no training in the US.

From the information I've gathered, if you don't need visa sponsorship to work in the US, US big law would be interested, especially when the market is good or if you've worked at a top firm and have good credentials. If you need visa sponsorship, lateralling back to the US will be significantly more difficult if you started somewhere else unless you're already a midlevel or senior with solid skillsets.

I know quite a few people who lateralled from London (from second years to fifth years). I believe there is some hesitancy as to how much you know about US deal work (being you probably did Euro stuff), but especially when the market is good, it is not an issue at all.

OP should wait until the market stabilizes. You likely won't get many decent opportunities lateralling back to the US in this market. Also, the risk of last-in first-out is quite significant atm.
