DOJ/FTC exit to law firm
Looking for insights on transitioning from enforcement agency (antitrust) to private practice in DC. 5-7 years’ experience at agency (plus clerkship). Among firms, thoughts on employment prospects, salary/bonus, billing hours, work conditions?

Re: DOJ/FTC exit to law firm
Depends. No idea about FTC (the couple of people I've seen come over were not antitrust and came in to partner-track but fairly specialized senior associate roles) but for DOJ, most people coming to my V25 firm in DC come from unit chief or similar levels and enter as junior partners. Not saying it can't be done, but I just don't see too many folks who aren't Deputy-this or Chief of that coming over. Maybe those levels can be achieved in 5-7 years at DOJ after a clerkship (DOJ Honors?) but I don't ever hear about how many years someone was there (unless it's over 20) - it's all about the position they had and the kinds of cases they worked.
My understanding is that junior partners will start somewhere in the 500-700k range, maybe a bit higher, and scale up from there. They work brutal hours to do so but the work is interesting.

You already made another thread asking the same question. viewtopic.php?f=23&t=313296&sid=6550060 ... a975f3fbe0
I doubt there are too many antitrust lawyers here with both agency and biglaw experience. If you've been at DOJ/FTC for five years you should already know plenty of people who moved to private practice (especially in the past couple years...). They'll have much better insight on the transition.
