Kaplan Hecker Summer Program?
I interviewed with Kaplan Hecker during OCI and have a few questions about their summer program that I don't feel comfortable asking folks there at this stage, because I haven't done my callback yet.
First, do they generally give full-time offers to their summer associates?
Second, has anyone summered at their D.C. office who can speak to the experience? It seems quite small at this stage – even smaller than the NYC office.
Thanks in advance.

Roberta Kaplan is a nightmare and an awful person that will trash people who leave the firm to clients and unrelated parties. Just stay away.

The office is not large enough for this to be a feasible strategyAnonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Aug 26, 2022 3:13 pmMaybe try to work with Hecker instead of Kaplan?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Aug 26, 2022 2:27 pmRoberta Kaplan is a nightmare and an awful person that will trash people who leave the firm to clients and unrelated parties. I've heard this from multiple independent sources too. It was one reason I refused to consider Kaplan Hecker when they were in need of mid-level associates at the time. Ironically, Roberta Kaplan is always receiving awards, getting press recognition, and bringing in big clients. Despite how she treats associates, she's a liberal media left-wing legal darling.
This isn't changing anytime soon. She's going to remain a strong presence at a small-ish but prominent firm, the associates who can tolerate working for her will get rewarded, and the ones who can't/won't will not have a promising long-term future at her firm. At least it's a simple and straightforward calculus!

Have heard the same thing about her, and this from a well-placed person who is usually extremely diplomatic and does not bad mouth anyone. This is also why I would never consider this firm.

My judge strongly advised clerks not to work for Kaplan Hecker.

Yeah, I just don't know why if someone had other good options one would choose to work at Kaplan Hecker, given the universally bad things everyone has heard about them, a reputation of which Kaplan is surely aware and is unlikely to change since it emanates from the core of the firm.

Re: Kaplan Hecker Summer Program?
The answer is that they consistently get high-profile cases for big-name clients. Every year there's going to be a crop of confident associates who believe they can shrug off the bad vibes of the office/colleagues for the sake of the work advancement and its associated payoffs (both monetary and otherwise). To each their own.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 12:12 pmYeah, I just don't know why if someone had other good options one would choose to work at Kaplan Hecker, given the universally bad things everyone has heard about them, a reputation of which Kaplan is surely aware and is unlikely to change since it emanates from the core of the firm.
