Skadden (NY) or Quinn (NY) for litigation?

Post by Anonymous User » Wed Aug 24, 2022 6:43 pm

I'm interested in LITIGATION

Having a really hard time choosing between these two. Main goal is to go somewhere that will set me up to move to a plaintiffs firm/government/non-profit role in a few years (so I want to maximize substantive trial experience as much as possible.) Quinn doesn't do much pro bono from what I can tell which is a major drawback for me, but Skadden is Skadden so idk if I'll be laughed out of a legal aid office if I try to apply later on in my career? Also kinda scared by the stories I read about Quinn on here (and its generally bad reputation online,) but I feel like I would fit in there more than Skadden. Genuinely clueless as to which one of these places will set me up better to learn how to litigate/start my career/make the transition I wanna make.

How do these two firms compare re: litigation reputation? What should I do with my LIFE? Why am I further cluttering this board with this bs?????

Thanks love u

I know at least some people who chose Quinn because it does plaintiff's work, which means plaintiffs' lawyers don't look down on you for having worked there as much. One of the hard things about switching to public interest or plaintiff-side work from big law is that these places often care about purity tests, and if you work for a Skadden...well...you worked for Skadden. Quinn also has a reputation for being one of *the* places to go for trials ("Quinn Emanuel: Trial Lawyers") so at least with Quinn you can make the legitimate case that you wanted to get a lot of trial experience and do plaintiffs' work to the absolute maximum degree possible while also getting a job the way law schools push you to get one (i.e., OCI).

this is OP. If you're voting for Skadden in the poll, could you explain why? I'm trying to genuinely understand the case for that choice as right now I'm leaning towards Quinn. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
