Best culture of the V10?
Which V10 firms (meaning V1 through V10) are known for having the best culture? Defining culture as good work-life balance, friendly attorneys, non hyper-competitive environment. Also I understand this may vary city to city

Re: Best culture of the V10?
you can't aggregate whole firms when it comes to this question
it's going to come down to practice groups
it's going to come down to practice groups

Re: Best culture of the V10?
Good work-life balance and V10 are generally considered mutually exclusive terms, otherwise echoing what the other posters said, heavily dependant on practice group rather than firm as a wholeAnonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 12:28 pmWhich V10 firms (meaning V1 through V10) are known for having the best culture? In general, tax departments tend to be the most bearable. This is true across biglaw firms in multiple cities.

Serious question, do the Vault rankings matter at all outside of NYC corporate?

Re: Best culture of the V10?
From your posts, it seems you’re in law school right now. Once you’re practicing and receive a Vault survey to complete, you’ll realize how useless/stupid the Vault rankings are - whether NY or otherwise.
Chambers is a much better metric for how good a law firm is and in what practice groups (and cities).
To OP’s original question, I have worked at 3 different V10 firms and Latham has had the best culture. Non-NY major market though. Your results may vary.

I’ll also co-sign LW. At least out west, not as familiar with east coast offices.

I’d say Latham though admittedly I’ve never heard anything from Gibson Dunn so they might be flying under the radar

I've worked at two V10s, one of them being Latham. I'd say Latham.

And on individual attorneys, Chambers isn't good either. There is no relationship in my practice group between those partners who are Chambers ranked and those who are good attorneys.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 5:00 pmFrom your posts, it seems you’re in law school right now. Lol so apparently Vault has rankings for firms by culture? Super reliable, I'm sure.

Re: Best culture of the V10?
Many will say Latham, but I had a terrible time there (NY and non-NY). Very cliquey within a number of practice groups. Laterals from white shoe firms made it worse, too. Overall, if you're non a minority or a woman, it's pretty decent if not great. Outside of that, good luck.

Re: Best culture of the V10?
Sorry you had this experience. I’m a woman (and mother) at Latham and think my quality of life is light years ahead of my peers at other v10s.

Re: Best culture of the V10?
Can some people explain why Latham's culture is so much better than other V10 firms? I do not understand this.

Re: Best culture of the V10?
It’s all practice group/work stream dependent. I’m at K&E but like my group and the people in it a lot. I know others who are miserable. Don’t base it off of firm but the people you will directly be working with there. I feel protected from the sweatshop by my partners and seniors/midlevels.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
