Current FaceTime Requirements
Incoming associate wondering what firms' facetime requirements currently are. I haven't heard anything from my firm, aside from what they told us last year (3 days in office). Is this still the norm?

Re: Current FaceTime Requirements
Just one impression but I'm getting the sense that facetime expectations are increasing. On the voluntary side, I'm seeing more people coming in, event attendance is increasing, noticing more "long lost" colleagues in hallways. On the involuntary side, there are a decent number of stories floating around TLS about firms' partnerships starting to monitor key swipes and similar metrics to gauge who is coming in. So my gut is that the tide is moving toward in-person and is going to continue to do so barring a COVID wave in the fall / winter. That said, at least at my firm I don't think we'll ever get back to expecting people 5 days in, which is IMO a good development; too much of this job can be done remotely to seriously expect that.

If you're trying to optimize for commute time, home office, etc. I'd start by planning to be in the office from 10-6, Monday-Thursday and then you have room to be pleasantly surprised

This is exactly why I was posting. Thank you both for your replies!

I would also encourage new associates to start with coming in Mon-Thurs consistently, unless your firm has some different rule.

Another data point:
Expectation at my firm is a vague 3 middle days, but you can easily get away with 2 days, some weeks less. If you have a closing it's OK to do it from home. Some people who were barely showing up got talks about it. Don't think they are tracking us or anything just vibes.

Re: Current FaceTime Requirements
I haven’t heard of any firms requiring associates to use FaceTime to communicate with colleagues. However, face time requirements are clearly on the rise.
