Re: Which LA Firm?
OMM transactional doesn’t seem to be where it’s at. A lateral to a top CA firm not in your poll told me they’d put 7 people in their “biggest deal of the year” at 700m, but once he lateraled, the new firm had him running much bigger deals alone. Also, other firms have been buying out OMM’s partner talent and I’ve heard from their ex-hiring team that lots of people choose other places over OMM for transactional to the point where it’s hard for them to attract transactional talent.
Sidley isn’t top ranked by they seem to have great culture. For culture, you should visit the offices.

This poll just proves everyone on TLS is a law student pretending to be lawyers. OMM is currently in the lead with 17 votes (43%) vs skadden at 11. If you knew anything about the LA biglaw market, you'd know OMM's corporate group is a shell of what it once was (wasn't that great to begin with, honestly) and is breathing its last, dying gasps. OMM's management made a very poor decision a decade ago to go all in on litigation, which in hindsight was a terrible move. The firm is constantly the subject of merger rumors, yet they can't find a suitor because no smart firm wants to take on what is essentially a huge litigation albatross at this point.
Skadden LA isn't any better - their LA office has been declining for years now and there is a serious dearth of talent or clients. I'm surprised they haven't just folded yet or their remaining good partners have defected to Latham, Kirkland, Sidley or Gibson.
Milbank LA is a joke and non-existent, yet in 3rd place. And what is actually the best answer, Sidley, is dead last. Good job 1Ls.

None of these options are that good. At some point, the answers stop just don't matter.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Oct 27, 2022 1:59 amThis poll just proves everyone on TLS is a law student pretending to be lawyers.
