Too soon to lateral but wait until Jan for bonus

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Aug 04, 2022 12:07 pm

I have a first round interview on Monday with a firm that I’m seriously interested in. I am on track for 2700 hours this year at my current firm and would hate to miss out on the year end bonus. I also have a big vacation planned late November and would find it weird to start then take a few weeks off immediately.

I know this is ahead of myself, but because it seriously factors into whether I’m interested in the firm I wanted to ask whether given the ordinary interview to offer timeline it would be crazy to get an offer let’s say end of August/beginning of September but ask to start beginning of Jan? Thanks!

Just ask the new firm to pay for it (and if you’re feeling lucky, ask for that on top of a signing bonus). This is a normal request. They’ll probably try to pro rate your bonus and you then ask for non pro rated plus signing bonus.

Take the vacation. Again, completely normal even if just started. Just tell them when you accept the offer that you’ve got the trip planned.

Cheers
