Driving Uber During 3L?
I want to make a little extra income during 3L--maybe just a couple thousand bucks per month. I'm thinking about driving Uber since I can do so consistent with my schedule, and it's a pretty relaxed way to make money. Any downsides. Any alternative ways to make some money during one's last year of law school?

You can make around $15/hr. at an RA for a law professor. (That was the approximate rate for NYU Law RAs when I was there at least.) That would be more of a resume boost than Uber driving.

To answer your original question, no real downside comes to mind, but as the above poster said, there are ways you can make money on a flexible schedule that would be more helpful for your career. Lots of local firms also look for short-term law clerks to help out with specific projects. Generally these pay $20-$30/hr, but I've seen some pay in the $50/hr+ range.

I drove uber last year (2L). I’m neutral on it - it’s not a bad gig, and you can make your own schedule. I wouldn’t pick up passengers (delivery only) but that’s personal preference. I’m pretty sure driving passengers affects your insurance, but double check that.

Can you actually make a couple of grand a month driving Uber? With these gas prices, wear+tear on the car, etc., I've never understood how the math pencils out.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 5:37 pmI want to make a little extra income during 3L--maybe just a couple thousand bucks per month. Maybe if you drive a paid-off Prius or something.

Yes but you have to be fairly selective with what rides/deliveries you take. I probably averaged around $20-25/hour after accounting for gas. Car is newer so no issues on that end.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Aug 02, 2022 8:41 amCan you actually make a couple of grand a month driving Uber?
