Not sure if it varies based on the firm. I'm at Kirkland chicago. Have my final and only review this week and I'm wondering if offers are typically extended during the review.

Do people verbally accept the offer when it's extended?

Yes generally that is when the cold/no offer is given at kirkland

It varies by firm, but that’s when it typically happens. Others might do it as part of your last-day exit interview with HR. You absolutely don’t have to accept on the spot (most firms give you until mid-November).

There’s also a few firms that don’t do formal offers (and sort of leave it at “call us when you’re ready to come back”), but that’s mostly to get around some of the ethics issues that come with having accepted an offer if you’re planning on clerking, and IIRC they’re very upfront with summers about how that process works.

Yes, while some/many firms may not do it then, many extend the offer during the final review. I don't think it is at all unusual to give a verbal response at that time (at my firm last year, I think something like 65%ish accepted, while the rest elected to wait).
