Best Orlando Med Mal Firms
Big law associate here looking to head south to Orlando. Looking for a change of pace and have a huge interest in med mal cases. Who are the players? What is the best firm and how much of a pay cut is it from biglaw?

I hear it's increasingly competitive. The best firms gift summers with Adirondack chairs and an autographed photo of Ron DeSantis.
Make sure you negotiate market salary so you can afford to eat at the Latin restaurant there.

If this isn't an anon post by that medmal guy with the inflated ego from the house buying thread, I will be disappointed.

Orlando medmal has gone downhill since they closed ITT Tech School of Law.

OP here. Sorry to disappoint. That’s a great idea, what are housing costs like for James mal associates? I guess that goes hand in hand with pay. Are any houses “on the water”???

All this is going to do is encourage the troll. Don't fall for the bait people.

I’ll bite. Why do you assume it will be a paycut? Don’t assume you have to work for a firm to start out either. It is eat what you kill.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 11:01 pmBig law associate here looking to head south to Orlando. It would be funny if you said “plastic” Adirondack chairs. The governor bit is off topic and out of nowhere.Lesion of Doom wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 11:15 pmI hear it's increasingly competitive. The best firms gift summers with Adirondack chairs and an autographed photo of Ron DeSantis.

I don’t know what is amusing about Latin restaurants. I mentioned multicultural cuisine and Michelin stars when the city was made out to be a cow town.

Nope. Settlements and awards are going strong. Never been better to move on down and join my firm. Still taking associate resumes.Tasteful Orlando wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 11:19 pmOrlando medmal has gone downhill since they closed ITT Tech School of Law.
If you are going to knock school closures at least get the name right.

Be disappointed. Housing costs? Depends on whether you want to be downtown or in the suburbs. A medmal associate can afford a 2BR with views, a pool, and a gym downtown. In the suburbs, there are new construction starter homes at 300-500k. If you want to be in Windermere or Winter Park where most successful attorneys in the area live then you generally need to be a partner or a solo. To get anything decent it will be about 1.5 million. There are less desirable parts of both towns but you might as well stay downtown at that point.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 11:28 pmOP here. Sorry to disappoint. On the water? Many, my friend. And obtainable on an associate’s salary if you are willing to make a 45 minute commute.

All I did was make one data point on alternative paths in law (really the mainstream path, most don’t enter large firms) and I got flamed. Who is the troll here?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 11:51 pmAll this is going to do is encourage the troll. Don't fall for the bait people.

No Eames chairs? I'll pass on Orlando. I'll check out Miami instead. Heard there's a booming property insurance market.Lesion of Doom wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 11:15 pmI hear it's increasingly competitive. The best firms gift summers with Adirondack chairs and an autographed photo of Ron DeSantis.

All depends on what you want to do. The Miami market is much tougher to break into. If you don’t know Spanish or Hebrew you are at a major disadvantage in recruiting. At my law school it was understood Jacksonville and Tampa were the best bets for an offer, then Orlando, then Tallahassee (it is small and UMiami/UF students into politics move there), then Miami, then Fort Meyers, then West Palm.dazed123 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 15, 2022 12:03 amNo Eames chairs? There’s so much Israeli investment in general corporate and real estate. Firms actively recruit for Hebrew speaking associates.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Jul 15, 2022 12:11 am...Hebrew? Yes, I know you and others are inexplicably amused by my discussion of medmal and being a solo in Central Florida. Although I find such amusement odd, I will continue to discuss it if prompted.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Jul 15, 2022 10:07 amYou literally said "I'll bite"...johndooley wrote: ↑Fri Jul 15, 2022 9:02 amBaiting to what end? Don't mistake their amusement with your self-amusement for actual amusement.johndooley wrote: ↑Fri Jul 15, 2022 10:32 amYes, I know you and others are inexplicably amused by my discussion of medmal and being a solo in Central Florida. I suspect you think this statement was more clever than it was.
