Thoughts on Simpson Thacher LA?
It's a small office but looks like it's expanding. I'm not sure how to feel about it since they do just a few transactional practice areas and very little litigation. I was originally litigation-focused but I have an offer there and am keeping an open mind. Does anyone know how the quality of the work is? General quality of life? What's the culture like?
I've talked to attorneys there about these things but obv anyone that Recruiting puts me in contact with will have a positive perspective on the office. I have until after OCI to accept, but Recruiting is pressuring me to make a decision ASAP.

I went to their reception and did not get a good impression. Was over the top fratty and for a tiny office if that’s not your vibe it’s gonna make for an uncomfortable summer. They played this ridiculous video ad and made everyone watch it packed in a tiny room.

I mean... What else do you need? Seems like a pretty big red flag to me.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jul 05, 2022 1:47 pmI have until after OCI to accept, but Recruiting is pressuring me to make a decision ASAP.

Don't do it. The people are insufferable. You will learn a lot but it is a miserable experience, and the type of corporate work they do doesn't transfer to other jobs well. If you want lit, there is one litigation partner there. Not a good place to start your career as a litigator.

Fratty is not the right word. People are intense, socially awkward, aggressive, and downright mean. It is a pressure cooker environment.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jul 05, 2022 3:00 pmI went to their reception and did not get a good impression. I like the office location more than the downtown ones. I see the fratty, and I maybe see the bit of socially awkward intense, but all the people I spoke with were kind, generous with their time, and friendly. Granted, this was during OCI last year and I'm sure they put their best people out there.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 11:53 pmFratty is not the right word. Horrible. Pressurecooker and filled with perfectionist workaholics. Avoid at all costs.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 8:28 amHow about Palo Alto?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 11:53 pmFratty is not the right word. Satellite offices of STB are relocated former gunner NY associates moved to make partner or try to make partner. The firm either tells them to move or they move to be closer to home. Fratty for MIT or CalTech, but not fratty lol. These are the quiet gunners from your law school. Never raised their hands and hated everyone they were in school with. Expect to work NY hours on NY deals.

Yawn. Typical TLS copy-pasted STB troll tropes.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Jul 31, 2022 8:36 pmSatellite offices of STB are relocated former gunner NY associates moved to make partner or try to make partner.
