IP Lit Associates - workload balance/how many cases are you on?

Post by Anonymous User » Tue May 17, 2022 9:42 pm

I'm a mid-level in IP lit and have struggled with finding the right balance of cases since day one. My hours are astronomical even when I'm on only two active cases (or even just one headed to trial). I recognize that a lot of that comes down to me being a perfectionist working at a firm with deep pocketed clients , but I'm curious about how other IP lit associates balance the work/case load? I'll start:

Level: mid (4-6)
Current caseload: 2 pre-lit/advisory matters, 2 active district court cases in discovery (one is actually a handful of related cases for multiple clients), 3 instituted IPRs
Typical weekly hours: 50-60 (higher for big deadlines)

Note: I'm mostly interested in IP lit, but I recognize that advice/anecdotes from general lit may be relevant too. Anon because my prior post history combined with the above sensitive employment info would surely out me.
