I know I'll get the EOY bonus because I negotiated it as part of my lateral package. Obviously special bonuses are in their own category and I don't expect to receive one that's based on my hours. Anon given the timing of when I lateraled.

There’s very little chance I will hit our 1900 but I think there’s a good chance they pay me it anyway because my reviews are very good and I’m considered a strong associate

Will hit it by the end of this month. 1950 target, fiscal year ends in September (so counting hours from 10/1/21 through 9/30/22).

Honestly really depends. I feel work is drying up and I'm going on a long vacation over the summer. I've started padding my numbers a bit already, but unsure if it will be enough. I was expecting to lateral early this year, but decided against it in the end, so I've already lost a few months where I did absolutely nothing. I think I'll either miss it by 100-200 hours or I'll barely make it.

Currently on track for about 2400 at my V20 and no sign yet of the work slowing down. Unless something changes in the next few months I’ll have no trouble hitting my minimum.

I'm a first year and my weeks seem to fluctuate between 20 and 50+ hours. Which means I both work really hard and am not on target to make bonus. I don't think I'm being squeezed out and I get decent feedback. Just wish I got more consistent workload.

Can you take on a pro bono research project or something, where the deadlines aren't 4 hours from when you receive them? Those more flexible, long-term projects can really help in filling downtime (at firms where those hours count toward targets).

We don't get credit for pro bono. Or at least not enough to matter. In general my firm is really bad at giving credit for non client billings. I do have some side work but it's hardly enough to fill up 35-40 hrs/week.

If in lit you could try to pick up some easy, doc review type work. I know it isn’t glamorous and everyone dumps on doc review but it’s easy hours and, at least in my experience, allows for better control over the amount of time you bill each day. This has been my saving grace as a first year. Some days I’m totally swamped with actual, interesting work but other days it totally dries up. On days like that I can churn through 8 hours of doc review with Netflix on in the background and have a low-stress, low-stakes day while looking productive and ensuring that I’ll be able to hit my bonus target. It’s a win-win.

Doc review is the fucking best. Easy, braindead work that you can do while watching Netflix. And if you get very familiar with the review platform, you can boost your efficiency and pad your hours. It's too bad you can't make a career out of it, and as a senior, it's not something I get to do anymore (except the occasional privilege review which I will always welcome).
