Publishing a note on a secondary journal
On the main secondary journal at my school. My note was selected for publishing.
Is it worth getting published? I’m a little concerned that it’s not actually good, and I don’t know if I want mediocre writing to follow me forever.

Literally nobody is going to give a shit about your note ever again, outside of you being nominated by POTUS for something. As long as you're not writing about beheading your political rivals, you're fine in that case too.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sat May 07, 2022 9:43 pmOn the main secondary journal at my school. If it was chosen for publication, it’s good enough to be worth publishing… You’ll have time and help to edit it into a better version anyway.

No one will read it and it's good on the resume. Do it.

I'll add that people are going to see the title if you choose to include in your biglaw bio, so don't screw that up. But yes, you might as well publish.

Agree with don't screw that up to the extent of no cussing or outside the mainstream politics (eg "why trump good" or "f*** yeah that cheerleader girl won"). But it's OK to have puns and corny long titles.

Do things that are a little social justice-y fit into this category (prisoner's rights, broader view of habeas policy, etc.)? Obviously not as extreme as the examples you mentioned. Publish it
Choose a conservative title
Don’t mention it in your bio (up to you it’s your bio)

Depends how out there it is. Is it something that biglaw ppl would do as pro bono? Sure. But if you go too anti corporate or acab that can be a tad risky.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun May 08, 2022 9:26 amDo things that are a little social justice-y fit into this category (prisoner's rights, broader view of habeas policy, etc.)? As a general rule, social justice titles are fine if the bad actor is a government body but not a private corporation. So prisoner rights would be fine, but consumer rights or environmental justice not so much. Think of the law firm's clientele.

why not put in your bio? i see scholarly publications in bios pretty frequently, even if they are unrelated to the practiceAnonymous User wrote: ↑Sun May 08, 2022 9:28 amPublish it

edit: although i can see how a student note is different from a full article

Re: Publishing a note on a secondary journal
Is there anyone I can PM with my note topic to clarify whether it's appropriate to list on my firm bio eventually?

who cares? you could always simply not list it in your bio. Idiotic to let this consideration dictate what you write aboutAnonymous User wrote: ↑Sun May 08, 2022 5:18 pmIs there anyone I can PM with my note topic to clarify whether it's appropriate to list on my firm bio eventually?

My note is already written and has been selected for publication. I'm just trying to figure out whether I should amend the title to be discrete during the editing process and whether I'd need to avoid listing it in my firm bio.The Lsat Airbender wrote: ↑Sun May 08, 2022 6:14 pmwho cares? you could always simply not list it in your bio.
