I'm a midlevel PE M&A associate. At one of the big firms (not K&E).
Within the last 2-3 weeks, I've seen an uptick in recruiting emails and phone calls from recruiting firms that claim that they are working for a PE sponsor or similar asset management/private funds advisors that need legal assistance in house.
Anyone here respond to these emails or calls? What kinds of opportunities have you heard from these cold call recruiters? I'm half wondering if I call them back and they say something like "oh, you know, you're not the candidate they're looking for after all. But, hey!, since we have you on the phone, how about lateraling to K&E instead!!!!"
I would like out of being a M&A associate, but I've been trying to get my firm to help me get in house at one of our bigger clients. Time will tell.

You can just answer and ask who the opportunity is with. No one is going to rope you into something that you don't want to do.
If they try and steer you to something you don't want to do just say no.

I'm in the process now following a response to one of these emails. They can lead to nowhere fast, but I'm determined to keep at it.
