Any insight on the NYLE from someone that has taken it recently? I've heard people just make a table of contents then look up the answer, but wondering how much of a time crunch it will be.

I'm taking it this week and wondering how much/little I should prepare for it!

People tend to flex a lot when it comes to NYLE (and MPRE). It's more difficult than people make it out to be, esp. since you can't move around and you don't have any sample exams to prepare with. Try to get as familiar with the outline as possible, and tab it, highlight it, etc. to expedite recall on the day of.

I just printed out the official packet that NYBOLE has on its website and tabbed the packet by page number (intervals of 10) rather than by subject matter. I preferred that method because some subjects are very long (e.g., CivPro), meaning tabbing just the subject wouldn't have been that helpful for flipping to a page number quickly.

Just go through the practice questions on the NYBOLE website too and practice looking up answers in the packet. I found that I had plenty of times to complete the exam with this bare minimum preparation.

Along with this, are the questions on the exam still short, like the example questions on the NY Board's website? And do the questions on the exam have the headings with topic areas related to the outline?

I had a searchable pdf on my iPad and used that/googled most things. I never studied and 'watched' the videos in the background.

On a serious note, I managed to pass by just tabbing page numbers for quick navigation through the materials. But a lot of people just use two devices and cheat.

I don't remember if there were headings. The questions were a little longer than the example questions, but were still pretty manageable. A few sentences at most. No long scenarios.

I thought the pdf isn’t searchable anymore?

It’s extremely easy. Make a table of contents with all the subtopics and then flip through the outline once the night before. Almost every single question is word for word from the outline. I didn’t find it to be a time crunch. I finished 15-20 minutes early.

I watched the videos and maybe flipped through the packet once or twice. I also had to take a massive dump mid-exam and brought my laptop with me to the bathroom, answered a few questions from the toilet, and still passed. You'll be fine.

A way to pass without studying without breaking the rules or using hard copies -- make a searchable detailed table of contents in word. For most questions you can just ctrl+f the TOC and go to the page of the pdf and find the answer in 2-3 minutes. There will be a few questions you have trouble with and a few more that might require looking at multiple sections of the pdf. Either way almost guaranteed pass if you're even slightly intelligent.
