I have never been across a firm that has used Microsoft Teams. I’ve only used it as a result of clients who set up the meeting.

Not going to name my firm but it’s a Chicago-based Vault firm. We use Zoom as a default (including for all internal meetings) but have Teams, WebEx, etc. because some clients want to use those platforms.

Because I am curious about the software programs used by different firms? At least there is a subjective relevance to this information. Providing the names of commonly used software with no relevant application is useful for no one.

Obviously people go anonymous for everything and nothing on this forum, but to then use the feature and still not disclose stuff? Nice. Anyways:

Freshfields uses Teams. Never understand why people use Webex, it seems so archaic to me. Not a fan of Zoom either because of all the ties I've heard to the CCP, so I'm happy with Teams. Not that it actually matters that much to me.

The point is that it's completely irrelevant. It's not like HC or bonus where there's a plausible reason to know. It's like wanting to know exactly which laptop you'll be using. If you have a firm, just ask someone in the firm.

Besides, once you're working you'll use a whole bunch of systems depending on which side initiates the call. I've used zoom, webex, teams, old fashioned dial in, etc.

How often would you say you have internal meetings in big law? I've always assumed that they'd be better about not wasting time in meeting due to the focus on billables but now I'm curious.

1-3 hour-long trainings a week, plus several monthly/quarterly firmwide/practicewide etc meetings (avg once every couple of weeks?). Usually you can work through these. Shorter meetings with team members etc, scheduled for 30 min but actually over in 7 (often billable). Hard to estimate how many such meetings -- depends on deal flow and whatever nonbillable (BD, etc) you're working on.

And that's internally. You also have meetings with other firm, with clients, etc. Overall we're not like some industries where half the time is spent in meetings, but we do have them.

Kirkland was WebEx until the pandemic and then they shelled out for firmwide Zoom memberships as well. Now everybody uses Zoom.

We have lots of clients on Teams and it’s annoying to have to use that when they can’t (or don’t want to) use our Zoom invites.

Curious to know which practice group you’re in and whether you’re junior kid or senior associate? Who teaches these trainings? My firm does zero trainings after first year orientation and I’ve always wondered whether others are the same or not.

I'm a first year (class of 21). They are usually given by seniors and partners. A few by outside experts. Depending on the subject, it's not always just juniors who come tho. We do get CLE for it.

All of my firm’s matter management, timekeeping, and other practice-related software is integrated into Outlook, so my firm sometimes uses Teams. But more often than not, we use Zoom— seems to be higher quality and easier to use.

I'm not the KE attorney that made this point but personally I like zoom because the filter makes me look better with minimum effort

I almost never have my camera on lol
