Hello,
Hoping someone can help. I recently landed 9 screeners (all Big Law) through the Georgetown/NYU Law Taxation Interview Program. Below are some of my "stats":
- Years of Experience in Tax: 10 (currently tax counsel at a major tech company in Silicon Valley)
- Age: Mid-thirties
- GPA: Tax LLM GPA is strong at 3.5. JD GPA is low though, likely around 2.7.
- URM Status
- Reason for pursuing Executive LLM: Company is fully sponsoring it (100% paid via corporate card)
- Reason for pursuing Big Law: Hot lateral market, figured this might be a good time to make the switch.
I'm glad I have received a few invites to interview, but somewhat thinking I may be too old to be seriously considered as an associate at this stage. Also, my GPA may be low, and I hear Big Law cares about it, regardless of how many years beyond graduation have passed.
Either way, I'm curious to hear how given my stats, you may approach the upcoming interviews. Looking for input/ideas as to how should I approach the process, based on what you know. Thanks in advance.

Re: Georgetown/NYU Law TIP - With Experience
Mid-30s is not too old for biglaw.
Interview may focus on your prior tax experience & on your LLM grades depending upon the needs of any particular firm.
Is your tax LLM degree from Georgetown or from NYU ? Did you specialize or earn a certificate in any particular area of tax law ?

Canadian Wolf....thank you for your reply. I'm in the Georgetown LLM program. While I'm not specializing in any specific areas, my general practice background is in corporate international tax. Also, the interviews I received were pre-select, and not lottery based, so on that angle at least I feel slightly more comfortable that I just wasn't selected to fill in the interview time slots (though that remains a possibility).
