Recruiter?

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Feb 15, 2022 4:29 pm

Hi all, I'm in a smaller market (think LIttle Rock, Omaha), and I saw that a firm has an opening through their website, but didn't apply yet. I sent my app to a recruiter and they mentioned this same role, stating it would be a good fit for me. Should I go with the recruiter and do the app or should I just apply myself? Part of me wants to use the recruit as they may have an in/talk me up some- what do you guys think?

It would be best if you can get in touch with someone at the firm (even through a mutual connection) who can pass your resume along. If that's not possible, applying direct is probably fine. I doubt the recruiter has a connection with the firm or they would have mentioned it. Your first objective is for your resume to get past HR and I'm not sure a recruiter would do much, especially if you're applying to a small or midsize firm that doesn't have to deal with the same volume of applicants as a NYC biglaw firm.

Thanks for the response! It is a satellite office for a big firm- the recruiter mentioned she had a contact with the office (but didn't specify which location that contact was with).
